Is there a volume knob on your guitar?

Volume knob would only roll off the overdrive or add more gain.

The BBE Booste Grande is a not so expensive alternative to the big boys. Pretty decent brand name too.....they are the company behind the Sonic Maximizer.

EQ pedal with the mids boosted and the output boosted.

That's the way I've always done it. Volume backed off during the song and then full on 10 during solo. :)

I'm intrigued by the Zvex Super Hard On alright... quite a pricey mutha though to be stepping on all the time.

As Feyla said Eq with the mids boosted will get cut your guitar through the mix. Slash uses an Eq in his Amp's effects loop

I have a Boss Fuzz FZ-2 pedal with a "Gain" mode , I use this. It's out of production for years though. Does the trick, I have it on the floor before the amp. For a crunchy slightly overdriven tone I have a Tube Screamer into a clean channel and then I use the amp's Od channel along with the TS for distortion. With the Fuzz gain kicked in I get lots more gain for solos

    eq in the fx loop

    easy peasy

I think it might depend on wether the effects loop is parallel or series.
Mine's parallel so if I want to put an Eq in the mix I have to fiddle with the Mix knob and fiddling with that seems to affect the tone .

either way its fine, chances are the fx loop is fully wet, the eq is fine when the sliders are all set to zero and the output level is just inscreased, done it many times

Mxr micro amp always does the trick

    boss equaliser is great..

another simple one is the Electro Harmonix "Linear Power Booster" altough it does overdrive your amp at the higher levels

I have the LPB-1 and I'm becoming increasingly dissatisfied with it. It doesn't boost your volume as much as it kicks your amp in the guts, so you lose alot of high clarity and things can get a bit muddy.

if u wana get a good eq also the mxr m108 is much nicer than the ge-7

going to try and pick one up soon, ge-7 is rather noisy

    GE-7 is made by Boss.........
Carlsberg don't do effect pedals.........so some people settle for Boss.

Nothing wrong with a Boss Eq. Slash used one for years before Mxr brought out a 10band Eq.

Lots of snobby cork sniffer type jibes against Boss

well theres just other companies who make the same pedal nicer

Boutique pedals that are based on old(er) boss designs ? :pac:

It's just a pity Boss are using cheap crap in their pedals.

I had the same problem myself. I bought the BOSS GE 7 Graphic Equalizer and it does the trick. Its only about €80 which isnt too expensive.

That's all to do with the amp and its clean headroom, is it not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

yes depends on the headroom but if its in the fx loop it shud be ok regardless..

either way if u want a simple volume boost, stick an eq in the loop, 0 fregiencies and just add a db or 2 to the overall output...

MXRm108 is the best eq for it, if u wana go cheaper go boss, cheaper again is behringer...
