Bravia 40W4000 Question - Analogue & Digital

I got a Sony 40W4000 over the last few weeks and am setting it up now. What I don't quite get are the Digital and Analogue modes. At the moment, only an antenna is connected to the tv (as well as a 360 & PS3), so no sky or anything like that has been connected yet.

When tuning the tv, all the Irish stations (Rte, Tv3 etc) were found and stored in the Digital mode, including some radio stations like 2fm, lyric and Radio 1. The english stations however were stored in analogue mode (BBC, Channel 4, UTV etc).

Now I dont quite understand how come the english stations cannot be stored in digital mode as well, even if the reception isn't as good as the Irish stations. Also, I notice you cannot tune in any other radio stations either. An old crt lying around the house here can tune in any radio station. Why can't this be done with the 40W4000?

Overall I am delighted with the TV, but just wondering about these few things.

that tv has a digital tuner which isnt really utilized in this country yet. the channels its picking up are the digital channels from ntl. the tv is a decoder (like the ntl digital boxes) but because you dont have an ntl card installed it cannot decrypt most of the tv stations.

in analogue mode, the tv is tuning in the ntl analogue channels which includes bbc, itv, ch4 etc and thats how you're getting them
