Ryanair increasing prices of flights

I wanted to book a flight yesterday but I didn't have my credit card details with me. Today I got my details.
Went to the ryanair site to book it and now the price of the flight has increased, out of my budget. Why does this happen? What is the purpose of it? The flight was for next Sunday, to a european city.

I don't understand the logic behind this. I'm so pissed off now:mad: Guess its lesson to learn.

The first few tickets sold on each flight are the cheapest. As it goes on, demand for those seats rises so the prices rise. It means people buying at the last minute are penalised and actually subsidise the people who bought early.

Flight is in 6 days time!

You should have bought it when the price was low.

This is how low cost flights work, supply & demand, snooze you lose.

There is no mystery or conspiracy here either :)

Ryanair record when you've been looking at flights and increase the price when you come back.

Renew your IP address, delete your cookies, restart your browser, try again and watch what happens.

    utter rubbish.

There is one thing though, the prices start out cheap, then rise, but if the plane does not look like it is going to fill the prices will fall again.

Op, do try again. Prices may go down.

This i know for a fact. Cant tell you how i know as i would drop myself in it.

Try it and see if you dont believe me.

Next time you look up a flight a few times and the price increases, do what i said and watch what happens.

The voices in your head told you?

Since prices can fall as you get closer to the departure time ( as ryanair will try and price it at the level which the plane will fill) this is probably what you are seeing.

    Absolute garbage.

I often wait to the last minute to book flights as I'm not sure of which day I'll be travelling. In the preceding days (and hours) I repeatedly check the prices. They don't change! That is until the date moves to less than 14 (or 7 days away) which is what happened the OP.

I couldn't, due to circumstances. Theres a reason why I was trying to get it at such short notice.

I was asking why they worked like this, whats the logic behind it.

    Never claimed there was!

Incidentally, I did think to myself that my IP was being recorded. It happened to me before that a flight (not ryanair) I previously looked at had risen in price when I looked at it a second time. I went to another computer and the price was lower again. Whether this was the result of a (very quick) price drop, or my IP address, I don't know. I couldn't say for sure. But its interesting that someone brought up the idea of the IP being recorded, it had crossed my mind before.

there is no technical reason i can think of why the above cannot be done.... anyone here work for RYR yield management who can confirm or deny

i've thought that before myself tbh,had similar experiences before. never tried it enough on an ongoing basis to see if it was real or coincidence but it wouldn't surprise me either tbh. can't complain, gotten many €0 flights out of them.

I dont think that happens, but its a great idea!
I must patent it and sell to Michael O'Leary.
    I'll be rich woo-hoo!

They could barely get the website to the stage where it would let you search and pay for flights. I doubt they could manage adjusting flight prices based on your browsing habits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭dmeehan

the only reason why the price would rise is that the cheaper seat was sold inbetween your visits. also have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yield_management
