I'm looking for a nice cheap acoustic, im a beginner so just a basic model will do. My price range is about 200 euro but I would stretch to about 300 if there was something really good. Im planning on heading out to xmusic tomorrow and seeing what advice they give me.

    Hey Niall!
You cant go wrong with the Yamaha APX series, very sweet guitar with a nice action. Im not sure of the pricetag but they couldnt be too far off €300.
You're best of investing in a quality guitar as a crappy acoustic can put you off playing.
    Best of luck!

ye cheers mate I heard its best off investing in a wooden top instead of a laminated top because they sound better? any idea if thats true?

Yes, you do lose some of the tone with the laminates but to be perfectly honest I have a laminated top electro-acoustic and it sounds very nice when I plug it into the PA and add a dollop of reverb.
Actually one of my students bought a new electo-acoustic recently and it sounded sweet. Cant for the life of me remember what make it was unfortunately. It had an inbuilt tuner on it.
It may have been an Ashfield but im not sure! Maybe worth enquiring about their models.

I cannot describe how unbelievably well it sounds and plays. Go the extra few quid, you will not regret it.

Yeah, but not for 200-300 euros. A really cheap solid top isn't going to leave you much better than a good laminate. Construction counts for a lot.

There are a few Yamahas in your budget; they're a safe bet for a dependable beginner's guitar.

When you decide to eventually upgrade and spend a bit more then you could look at the solid tops, but the Yamaha will do a good job for the time being.
