I-tunes and I-dump

    Can someone advise me?

My friend has an i-pod with music already on it. He does not have access to a computer any more so has asked me to transfer cds onto the i-pod for him.

From what I understand, if I copy all the cds onto a newly downloaded copy of i-tunes and then connect up the i-pod, when I start the transfer(irrespective of what settings are chosen) it will delete the music already there (much of which cannot be recovered elsewhere).

I have read a small bit about i-dump which would allow me to back-up all the i-pods music onto the computer.

The question is should I download i-dump first, copy the music from the i-pod, and only then download i-tunes to ensure that nothing is lost completely. Then upload the cds and the i-pod music back onto the player.

Any clarity on this would be appreciated.

when you open iTunes, it'll ask you whether you'd like to sync this iPod with this iTunes account...... click no and then do whatever you need to do.
