I think theres at least 1 million better photos you can take of limerick city than that, maybe photography isint for you!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,158 ✭✭✭✭Berty

You took a picture of Garryowen, a City Borough sign and an alcoholics wet house in St Johns Square.

    Why?

I don't follow. what is the point of these pictures, what message are you trying to convey, are these the only pictures you took in Limerick, would you care to share all pictures you tok in Limerick so as to give context to the three you already posted?

Like I said, it makes no sense.

There's a photography forum on boards.ie and they might be interested in reviewing your pics but from a Limerick pov they're not without your commentry.

talk about opening a hornets nest, it st john boy scout hall, Garryowen is where i lived, and the bourough sign was on the way to the Corbally baths.

talk about opening a hornets nest, it st john boy scout hall,

On the left of the picture with the wreath on the door is the alcoholic wet house. We used to have the off license around the corner and had to call the Gardai many a time on the occupants of that wet house. Thursday was a busy day when WE(society) would give them drinking money through the social welfare.

In fairness the majority of the photo is of St. John's Scout hall.

I does not mean I should not critique the picture.

It also contains an SUV in the foreground amongst other things but I decided to point out that it contains a wet house because its not something the OP would have been aware of.

    thank you sir!

i visited the corbally baths the same day, it saddened my heart to see this icon of the 60/early 70's gone to ruin. When we where young you learned to swim in the shannon feilds, you the progressed to the corbally baths. You could not go to the main bath's you honed your swimming skillss on the left by the bridge, before you progressed to the main bath's.Now when you swam in the main bath's you felt as if you where 10 feet tall, or it was the equivalent of been allowed a free pass into "Mac's" sweet shop. The guy's that could swim over to the other side "well" theoe guy;s where considered the "quarterbacks" of the corbally baths in our very young minds.

If you had prefaced your original photos with a bit of a spiff like above I'm sure you would have gotten a more positive reaction, rather than just sticking up 3 poor quality seemingly random photos of places in Limerick.

This is a much better post than the one with which you started this thread. There's context, history and opinion, instead of just 3 seemingly random pictures. Well done for the improvement in quality also.

There used to be an annual, unofficial Photos of Limerick competition on this forum, maybe keep that in mind for the next time you post up pictures :)

    Better pictures this time.

I grew up in Shannon banks so have vivid memories of the baths prior to them being knocked down. The previous access to the baths was limited and then closed off because of late night "boy racers".

The pinkness of the pink path dissapeared over the years but it was a great location and escape route for us from St Munchins College.

I wonder if people still do the Christmas day swim and new years day swim in the baths.

I must revist the baths and take a walk out along the weir.

Brings back memories. Thank you OP.

I used to visit my grandparents in Corbally, used to love going down by the baths! Or walking along the banks!

    Much better post.

can we use this thread as a place for people to post pics they have taken of limerick? would make for great discussion, never mind the composition of the pics, thats for the photagraphy forum, but i think it'd be cool to see peoples snaps of the city, some of the ones turning up lately (o'malley pk tour etc.) have been in my opinion really interesting. i'll throw up some of my own snaps of the city tomoro.

Ye're a great little bitching Clan at times children  OP ignore them please - some people here will certainly welcome your contribution to a sub-forum that is usually painfully quiet - why they want to be seen to be chasing off their one daily poster is beyond me.....

OP sorry to go off topic......Ref. the Garryowen shot, was really struck at how they knew the importance, value and basic need for an adequate sized green area that long ago..... Somebody should drive McInerney, Chieftain and all the other profiteering cu*ts architects of our suburban sprawl modern day planning down there and explain that house buying couple very often DO have children. It was, is and will be simple, WE will allow you to build X hundred shoebox-sized munchkin-houses with paper-thin walls and miniature gardens, IF you agree to include the odd appropriately sized green area and put up the odd slide or swing set etc...... Makes you kind of glad they're all fcuked now really......

    - Where the vacuous, moronic, lazy fools in the Planning Office comes into this whole equation I can't even begin to imagine

MY area is Dooradoyle and my nearest Park is......?....... The Peoples Park - which interestingly seems smaller these days due to the Limerick Planning Office drones cheering for some reprobate as he built eyesore apartments and a Pharmacy on it - 'cause we needed more of them didn't we???

Why double-post? Please learn to quote stuff too so it reads back logically. I personally got a lot more out of the original post than I did out of your angry-little-man spam posts.

    O.P = Opening Poster.

There are a lot of weird acronyms so just type them into Google or the Urban dictionary for results.

Edit your post. Click on advanced. You need to put this on a website. Try photobucket or similar. Get the embedded URL of the picture and click on insert picture in the advanced section of your message and paste the picture.

    Boom and your done.

Keep it up and you'll get a ban. If you think the pics are getting better now, imagine how great its going to be here when you get back from a nice little break! Something to look forward to.

Billy would have banned you by now (and I wouldn't be surprised if he does ban you when he sees the 3 or 4 reported posts from this thread alone).

Yeh lads cop on here, bit of photography, no need to freak out about it. Some people are just t***k around here, and think they own the place, if you don't like the thread then ust go onto something else, don't bother postin.

Don't mind them OP, and fair f**ks for standing up to them and posting more, this thread could turn out to be pretty good actually.

Keep it up lads, and the rest, just go off and get a life, posting c**p ! !!

Ok firstly. My First Post said: this wasted 5 mins of my life... This is because there were 3 photos randomly posted with no explanation. So it did.
My second post actually quoted what someone else said previously and stated "well said".
So what is wrong with this? they are not bad posts. So being reported by someone for that is sad!
The thread suddenly makes more sense now and the thread is good. I don't understand why u quoted something nice I said and said "Keep it up and you'll get a ban.". Does this make sense?
In my third post I was pissed off that people were talking beans about my post. and rightly so because I said nothing wrong. I may have over-reacted but don't u think the person who reported me OVER-REACTED for no apparent reason. I don't really care if u are twice the age I am.... again your not making sense.
Finally, If I'm banned for expressing an opinion that is not as bad as Raiser is pointing out, then that is also pretty sad.
No I will go back to the pics, The pics of Kerry (think its kerry, didn't get a chance to read the caption) are sensational. well done OP.

Your post was reported because you told him to stick his pictures up his arse.

I have infracted you for that post, and I'm going to infract you again for questioning mod actions in thread rather than via PM.

Bans will follow from here on in.
