Hi I have been having an issue recently with gmail and outlook (and other email like Thunderbird) when I go into the program and try to get email it says "your IMAP server wants to alert you to the the following: Web Login Required (Failure)" and then asks for the password. I put in the password and it fails again. I can log in through browser perfectly.

Imap was working and then i have had this issue and checked all the usual things.:(

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks
    Eóin

have you been retrieving email though outlook previously with that account ?
(which will answer the question whether you have enabled IMAP settings in your gmail settings - could double check its still on too)

Yup previously been able to receive emails through it, and checked that gmail imap was still enabled.

Other email address (eircom) has started doing it now and was working earlier today.

Nah, use AVG which I have my other computer and the emails work fine on this one...but the settings are the exact same and both worked and nothing was changed!

    Its just really frustrating!

OK I worked it out now. the eircom one worked again after i restarted as it had downloaded updates?!?

the Gmail account is now working again, it had something to do with googles captcha? I was searching on internet and found about it there. Apparantly they updated something and some accounts had a conflict.

went to google help and found it (didnt want to follow a direct link from a random website!) and put in the details and all works now.

Just thought I would let people know if it happens anyone else.

    Thanks.

Just read the solution I gave, its not the most clear description, but mainly because I don't know much about it! But just googled "google Captcha" and the first result is the unlock page I was talking about, just to help people more and of they want to have a look at what exactly google captcha is!
