So for what must be the 29th time this year, I'm in the dark. Cheers ESB, I can just picture those clowns walloping the generator with a shovel right at this minute..."Nope. That didnt work either Seamus!!"
Muppets. Its a bloody disgrace to be without electricity today of all days, its not like I can go anywhere, everywhere is closed FFS! And excuse my sarcasm but I didnt realise there was a tropical storm hurtling its way across the country right now, cutting power lines and destroying everything in its wake....RANT OVER...
So what to do for the rest of the evening, with just a candle and my own thoughts???
2 minutes of battery power left on my laptop so this is me signing off before I go back to the dark ages.......unless the concept of "ELECTRICITY" comes back to Limerick. AAAARRGHH!!!!!

    Loot your local stores

You could spend the night filling out an application to ESB for a job and if successful you'll be able to fix the breakdowns in your area yourself. Easy job and good salary too.... so I'm told!! :D:D

    So for (....)AAAARRGHH!!!!!

Draw back the curtains, and open a bottle of wine. Let the sounds of Limerick at night percolate in - womens screams, men crying for their mothers as they're being stabbed to death, the growls of the dog fight, the bark of the pistols....then start to sing "In the Ghetto", in the style of Elvis Presley.

Buy a standby generator. *pulls cord to start*

The phone landline should be on a separate electricity supply, so you should be able to McGyver enough juice out of that to keep the laptop going.

Well I did try to do my funny broken-arse Elvis walk to pass the time...which looks really seedy by candlelight!

When I say 2 minutes, of course I mean 10.

Oh and yes the power has come back, caveman lifestyle on hold again....maybe I should sabotage the national grid tomorrow so you can all enjoy a night in the dark. Great fun altogether.

another townie who can't do without electricity and his modern conveniences for a lil while.

at least its not as bad as in London. I was in a shopping centre there once and the power went. only for about 20 seconds but as soon as the lights went out this ditzy chick who clearly wasnt used to anything started screaming her head off

i don't get this obsession with needing everything to work 100% of the time. its only a ****ing power cut. go do something else ffs - if you were on boards with your last 2 minutes of laptop battery you can`t have been doing much important anyway. i have a generator but most times there is a power cut i don't even bother getting the thing out.

Ah but when you ring a phone number a spike of 75V is sent down the line, something to do with the old bell they used to have in them, so to garner enough power to charge some batteries you need 2 phone lines, one to ring the other one with, then with some clever rigging of an old phone and a spare invertor you might have lying about from a Solar panel system twould be quite straightforward to acquire a little extra electricity from telstra, and shur it wouldnt bee illegal cos y'd be payin line rental anyway.

Good thing about a power cut is it reminds me of this song. Though I think it was written about an ice-storm in canada that resulted in power outage for f***in ages which kinda makes my situation seem insignificant somewhat :o
I shouldve called this thread Neighborhood #3...all the Fire fans would understand!:D:D

i was cursing them left right and centre coz i had my friends with their 4 children and my father coming down for dinner. thank god my friend lived close, cooked the rest of the food in her house so we still had our dinner.
i chanced ringing the esb and well they sent someone out to look at it, i felt so bad afterwards. the man was very understanding tho and was so nice about it, unfortunately there was nothing he could do for us.

ah we were laughing about it come evening time tho, so i guess this is a christmas to remember

Actually they run on 48V DC, and when the line rings you get 90V AC...

We rarely get power-cuts where I live, which is fortunate, but power-cuts don't bother me.

It's fun for the first hour or so, especially if it's dark out.

The novelty wears off rapidly though.
