Problem not recognising file types

My computer won't recognise exe files when I download them from a site, it saves them as filename.exe.part.

Looking on the web ,people seem to suggest its a registry problem, which I have no idea how to fix. They recommend software to download to fix problem but problem is software are all exe files so I can't run any of them post download.

Any ideas?? I need to fix this problem so I can download some anti-spyware software to fix another problem I'm having. I was attempting to fix this 1st problem when I seem to have now created a 2nd. Grr!!

Why don't you just remove the '.part' from the file extension?

Tried it - didn't work. So I downloaded some registry fixing software from another pc and transfered it with a memory stick so problem solved. Thanks anyway.

Are the downloads actually completed? .part is usually used a temporary file for a download in progress.
