I have a Dell Dimension 5000 running Windows XP Home.

I use RealPlayer quite a bit to listen to audio streams (such as those from RTE).

Everytime I launch the player, the Windows screen saver stops working and I have to "re-activate" it by going to the desktop, right-clicking, selecting Properties and selecting the Screen Saver tab. It works OK after but, curiously, as long as RealPlayer is active, the monitor does not go into "sleep" mode like it would normally do after awhile.

I have upgraded the player several times over the past 3 years, reinstalled it etc all to no avail.

I have tried and tried and tried to get a solution to this but to no avail....this is a last ditch attempt...can anybody help?

    Thanks!

Realplayer uses Java, Shockwave and Flash player and this I suspect, even if it is running in the background, is fooling the pc into thinking that something is active all the time when Realplayer is on/minimised.

The only solution is to get an alternative to realplayer (I hate it myself).
    Such as this: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/real_alternative.cfm

Hi Biggins....I installed that player and it worked fine...but now the saver won't kick in even when I try and reactivate it!...it will only activate when I quit the player....it's a nice player though....I will keep it.....

    Any other ideas?

dont use real player myself but i know from using others that some have an option if you look to disable the screensaver durring playback. might be worth checking your settings in real player
