Sending Christmas texts - Lazy and impersonal?

Just started getting the usual happy Christmas texts.

God i hate get getting Christmas texts. It just lets me know how lazy and impersonal people are getting.

If they are important to you - phone your friends to wish them a happy Christmas. If they arent there - leave them a proper message.

Its as bad as people sending E-Cards. Send them a proper card, or a proper email.

I hate christmas chain texts and new year chain texts.
they really annoy the hell out of me.

Nothing says a personal greeting than

"snd diz 2 ur bffz 2 let dem no u reli kare abot dem at xmass xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxox"

    or something of that sort.

I don't mind regular christmas texts though, the more personal ones. It's just the pass-on crap I hate.

I've just had one from a Jewish friend in Israel which I very much appricated, we'll chat on the telephone tomorrow and she's one of my dearest friends.

Otherwise, I like it that people remember me at this time of year.

costs 13c, less than the price of a stamp and it saves the postman breaking his back carrying half the rain forest on his back every morning.

Absolutely, people are too quick to complain about anything and everything these days.

I'm happy to be thought of at all. I couldn't care less about the medium of communication.

I got one that woke me up at half 8 this morning.......from a driving instructor I used. Apprecite the thought not the timing though.

Must have been big to make that much noise or the postman was a grumpy fooker and hammered your door down delivering it!

I love christmas texts. Not BS chain texts, but I don't care if you send me a generic text, I'm just glad you remembered me when you were saying Merry Christmas.

I don't text people I don't want to text, there's no obligation attached.

As stovelid said, the means of communication is not the issue, the communication is.

Pfft Christmas texts are nice. It's as equally impersonal as sending Christmas cards to everyone, except the Christmas cards just take longer to send and cost more.

yep, i've been using my fella's simcard for over a year now, and got a text from Ronnie (m), whoever the fcuk that may be, wishing me a merry christmas, and remember not to drink too much... yeah right!

    o_O

    fcuk off ronnie.

got 22 of them so far. Including several from people i barely know. Im just in their phone contacts.

Only 1 has my name in it. That one i will return.

Im betting that the ones without my name in them went to a lot more people at the same time. Some of the exact same texts even arrived at the wifes phone at the same time.

Thats my problem with it. Just because someone sends the same text to everyone in their contacts does not mean they are thinking about you.

If it has your name in it then at least they put some effort into it and meant it specifically for you.
I have much respect for people who through the effort of writing messages on cards to everyone they care about. Even texts, but not the bog standard text to all contacts. Its just lazy.

Still gives me an excuse to play with my new laptop to complain about them.

Now, im off to play with the kids toys :D. I love Christmas.

I usually send the mass-chrimo text to 30 or 40 people, but this year, I don't know. It's better than cards, as I know they texts arrive (delivery reports), and also a lot of them, I only know their number.

Those generic christmas texts that get sent to lots of people just annoy me. Woke up to 7 of them this morning.

I only replied to the one that mentioned me by name.

That's the thing - often the sender of these texts doesn't even realise they're wishing you a happy xmas at all. They just send a generic text to every contact in their phonebook - the taxi company, the milkman, ex-partners that they probably now hate... and you.

i think it depends on how you handle it / what's in them. The chain ones are generally pathetic, but i forwarded one on to a couple of people this morning for the laugh (the people i sent to will get the joke).

Otherwise, i put a bit of effort into them, or at the very least change the name at the start ;)

i have a Christmas tradition of phoning my best friend after Christmas dinner every year, even if we've seen each other as recently as the previous day (as we did this year)! Don't think we've missed a year in nearly 20. i also speak by phone to a few other people who are special to me, like friends who are far away, or my bachelor uncle who i'll probably visit between now and New Year's as well.

Right now though, my phone is off and i probably won't check it again until after dessert.

    Merry Christmas!

I got a text from Oisín, who the hell is Oisín?

Also I hate it when people who you're acquainted with who wouldn't normally give you the time of day send you a Christmas text.

I sent personalized ones all morning to most of my address book, but that's only because I don't do Christmas cards as I don't have the actual address for most people and i'm not married so have no wife to do it for me. :pac:

I don't mind Christmas texts and always send them coz I don't send cards. It wouldn't be possible to telephone all of your friends on Christmas Day, you'd have no time for anything else

    looks like the new thing,

people too lazy to send a letter in the post, send emails
people too lazy to send a christmas card, send texts

people say emails are faster so is a christmas text:cool:

    +1.

I admit that I sent a generic message to my friends today, but there's no way I'd have enough time or credit to ring them all.Plus I din't know their addresses!Even if a message is generic,it's still nice to get one and to acknowledge it by texting back.

That said though, chain texts can go die in a fire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

No way I was writing out personalised messages to the hundred or so people I consider worthy of a Christmas message from me. Granted if they texted me first or replied they'd get one.

However I did get a couple of responses saying, "Thanks, who is this BTW?"
That's how you know you aren't friends anymore...

I sent cards and I also sent a xmas text.... I think it's a nice additional touch to those you know and speak to on a daily basis....

    Happy xmas boardsies........................:-)

I usually don't mind except I got a new phone and without the numbers copied over, it was a nightmare finding out who sent them!

I just sent texts to people i could contact quickly, and comments on bebo for those i couldnt...i feel i spread the goodwill in my own way there:)

No I don't mind if someone sends me a Christmas text. To me, it's nice that someone bothers to text or to add my name to the list of recipients.

I sent texts but the best for me was getting a text from a friend...and then five minutes later getting the same text from another friend (who would also have been on the previous guy's list). Going to presume a lazy forward but it's Christmas so I'll let it slide :D

    🤪

I try and put peoples names in the text that deserve a text, then i send a chain one of "Merry Christmas!! Hope santa was good to you, have a great one!!" or some other lame sh*t. Then I take note of the people who don't write back and delete them from my phone book. Yeah I'm looking at you Aoife. That drink we talked about that we should maybe go for some day is SO off!!!

Well if people hate them so much, send back a text saying go to the trouble of writing me a letter the next time, you cunt. That way you don't get any more texts and we don't have to hear any whining about them.

    Everyone's happy.
