It may be the program you are using to play them.

Try VLC or Media Player Classic and let us know how you get on.

I have windows media player 11 and I am using this at the moment & same problems as above. Whats VLC?

Could it be that the driver needs to be updated?

vlc is a media player to play all sorts of stuff such as movies be it mp4 dvi etc.Vlc is the best media player if you want it to play but i much prefer gom player for its interface and shortcuts

    Install one of these:

http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm (includes Media Classic as mentioned)
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (VLC player)
    http://www.gomlab.com/eng/ (Gom player)

Personally I'd go with the first one but if one don't work for you (which I'de be VERY surprised at) one of the others will.

All the best and Happy Christmas.

Either install the K-lite codec back (actually, do anyway) and that comes with media player classic geared for movie playback. VLC is also good for anything WMPC doesnt run well.

I havent downloaded the codecs yet but what im presently getting when trying to play in windows media 11 is

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

when i checked the properties of the DVD - RW drives

it comes up with Fujitsu MHV 2060AH ( disk drives)
    NEC DVD+- RW ND- 6650A ( DVD / CD-R)

Do i need to update the drivers and where can i find updates for same. I am bit nervous about updating the drivers in case it wont even play CDs

    Have you tried installing VLC?

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

It's a very good media player, way better then windows media player.

Tried VLC and it didnt work. Then tried media player classic and it worked. What was wrong and what caused this to happen?

I tried to download the codecs pack but it wouldnt run when i had it downloaded.

    VLC didnt work? Funky.

The decoder error you got is more than likely referring to a missing or broken codec.

Yeah it's due to codecs, I used MPC for a long long time, am on VLC now though.

I dunno wtf WMP was giving you that error for. MS fail! If you've anymore problems then let us know. :)

    Happy Xmas!
