Computer Won't Connect to Internet

Hey. Currently I have 3 computers using the one broadband connection through a wireless router. Up until today everything was working fine. But now one of the computers, a laptop, cannot connect to the internet at all. All that comes up is "Aquiring Network Address" but doesn't connect!

Originally there were only 2 laptops using this broadband connection, but I brought my PC home for Christmas and since then problems have started occuring. One of them was a warning that popped up on the two computers stating that we were sharing an IP address. Should I be worried about this?

Also, I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but the laptop connection stopped working when I set my connection to a wired connection whereas previously I had it as a wireless connection. I tried going back to the wireless, and even disconnecting altogether, but that didn't help.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Seems you have one machine that has a static ip and is in the dhcp address pool, check all machine are set to acquire their IPs from the dhcp server (its inside your router) and this issue should stop. This issue really shouldn't happen as their should be a packet broadcast on the network by the dhcp server to check that an IP isn't already in use, which would tell the DHCP server that the IP is in use so skip to the next available IP. Very strange, anyhow the steps above should get you online.

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it.

However, I'm pretty much computer illiterate so how exactley do I go about doing what you said?

    Thanks in advance.

    NO probs:

Start > Run > type: cmd > press: enter key

Command prompt box will pop up and in this window type: ipconfig /all > press: enter key

Repeat this on all computers and post the print out here, then I can take you further along.

I know this isn't directly related but do a system restore to an earlier date a nd see if the get you back up.

So from what I see above we have one XP and one Vista machine? Where is the 3rd machines info?

There's no problem with that computer. It's only used now and then.

System restore on which one? Both or just the one with the problem?

Have you tried a hard reset on the router? That usually fixes any DHCP problems I have
