So far for me it's the new Royle Family. I'm not bothered buying the rte guide, is there anything else on anywhere that's worth catching/taping?

I amn't a big fan of The Royle Family but it seems to be the only thing worth watching. BBC are doing a new version of the 39 steps so that should be interesting.

Some good alternative Films on RTE TWO.

Everything is missable. The era of "must see tv" is, alas, over.

Twas Must See as people knew it wasn't going to be repeated for years back in the olden days.

GOLD/Dave/E4 25 times within 6 months has killed the whole business.

Wouldnt agree. It has declined but not over, since 'must see' effect was greater when we had fewer channels and a greater % of the population was likely to be watching the same thing. But the quantity of high quality TV is probably better than ever - so plent of 'should see' out there. (Its certainly over for 'must see' TV concentrating itself at Christmas though)

Not even as a stopgap between Dragons and Blackadder????

ITV is absolutely dire (except for Rising Damp Xmas Special on ITV3 at 1745 and Harry Hill TV Burp Review on tomorrow at 1900)

C4 is bad tonight but tomorrow from 2150 there's a good run-in of IT Crowd then Star Stories (Bono!) and 8 out of 10 and Fonejacker Xmas Special

Special mention for a new ep of Jonathan Creek on NY Day on BBC1 <--I loved that program;)

ITV gave up the Xmas day battle years ago after they suffered a knock out blow in 1985 with Den and Angie and the subsequent loss of lustre of the Bond Premier which in the home video age was no big deal anymore.

Watch Kings (Colm Meaney) on TG4 St. Stephen's night and Garage (Pat Shortt in a serious role, brilliant) on RTE2 Saturday night.

Seems like Wallace & Gromit topped the viewing figures across the UK terrestial channels and deservedly so...14.4M viewers tuned in and that doesn't include those who may have recorded it.
Salutes to Ghost and the closing scene in Aliens had me in fits personally (I was half expecting the poodle to scream "Leave him alone you bitch!")...one of the few programmes that can consistently bring a smile to any face young or old IMO.

Dr Who was pretty good...I wouldn't be a regular viewer but the story was accesible and looked really good (probably looked great in HD).
Honourable mention for Fonejacker christmas special on E4 last night too...not everyone's cup of tea and probably not Novak's finest work but still quality.

On the whole better than most other christmas days' telly I can recall in the last few years...

BBC trashed ITV again, the whole top 10 bar 1 I think.

ITV have not bothered to compete with the BBC for many years.

I don't know it looks pretty bad doesn't seem to have the panic of the original. I know its been made a number of times since but it looks like it will remain a classic.

The Big Quiz of the Year is also on tonight.

Spent the day in robes and sandles. Quo Vadis was on for three hours on RTE1 this morning and Ben Hur is also on at the mo . . . will probably be on for the week ! Peter Ustinov is absolutely class as Nero in QV, as for Hur . . . the best bit has to be the chariot race and the music that accompanies the introduction, the parade of the charioteers. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Star Stories is the only thing that I really enjoyed, the Bono was great.
