Ever do a search for a technical issue on the web, only to find the solution you want is on www.experts-exchange.com (a subscription-based site that you have to pay to access)?

Found a link this morning (Source) that lets you create a free account.

    http://www.experts-exchange.com/registerFree2.jsp

I just created an account, and I have full access.

Pretty handy! Don't know how long it will last (or if it will expire) but its worth registering just in case.... :)

Doesn't ask for Credit Card details or personal details (other than name and email address), so there is no downside or risk to this...

Are you sure that's not just the 7 day free trial?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Hmmm, has the same string in the url as the 7 day trial:

    secure.experts-exchange.com/register.jsp?rsid=130&redirectURL=/registerFree2.jsp&rsid=130&cid=824

    Expert Sex Change?

    Not today lads, thanks :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Not sure. If you go through the regular signup process on their website, you're asked for credit card details. Can't find a 7 day free trial link anywhere (anywhere obvious, anyway).

I've always found the site pretty good without ever signing up. That is unless I wanted to post an issue I suppose.
The answers to the posts are normally at the bottom of the page below all the adds.
Cheers for the heads up though, no harm in signing up.

And if that doesn't work you can just view the google cached page for it :pac:

Yup, but an account is very handy.

It got me through a few years in IT, in particular systems which didn't have great local support and a lot of legacy systems. Some of the advice I've gotten is great.

    Limited account here too.

    Folks,
When you google the problem and it brings up a list, you can view the experts exchange page by clicking on the cached button underneath each listing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Yes, but the real benefit of an EE account is being able to post questions, not find specific answers to other peoples.

Anyone starting off in IT would get great benefit from a proper account.

Is the limited account only valid for 7 days?
