Rack

Does anyone have any experience of making their own rack to hold gear?

I have an old Hifi Cabinet that I've put two strips of 2x1 down the side to screw the gear into and have 2 PC fans inside, one pulling in air & one pushing air out. It's never going to be gigged so I'm not too worried what it looks like.

Is there a minimum spacing between gear? Are the fans needed ( I put them their as I thought the rack stuff would last a bit longer if not running to hot ).

    Any other tips?

    Regards

    Rob

Hi I made up a rack sometime ago with rack strips from Maplin and built a cabinet to house them--you need to measure up units to rack strip holes--as units need slight leeway over 19' to fit. If a unit runs hot its best to leave a gap above and below to allow heat to dissipate but Ive nothing that requires a fan to cool it.
