    right

i've been trying to get the deadlift right - but its not working. my squat has really been producing results, and i think if i got the deadlift technique right, then i'd see results with this also

i've looked up a lot of info on the deadlift and there is conflicting advice about the lifting phase and whether a shoulder shrug and calf raise should be incorporated

    any advice or comments please

Neither should be in corporated the correct technique involves pulling the shoulder blades down and back.

Im confused.Do you want to incorporate a shrug at the upper portion of your deadlift or do you aim to use it as a supplementary exercise to improve your deadlift?

I could only imagine the damage if a calf raise was implemented.

Where did you read about a calf raise? I don't know how that would even be possible if everything else was done right.

Yes why would you shrug. Back straight, bring bar up, lower bar down.

This wasn't asked but for more trap emphasis, when full extension is achieved you can lean back a little into it.

What do you mean by "lean back"? Where's the leaning back coming from??

its a deadlift/back extension combo. All the cool kids are doing it.

I find when I'm doing a really heavy deadlift, if I add in a calf raise, an upright row and do it on a Bosu ball while singing and doing the actions of the Birdy Song, I get the ultimate lift.

Don't knock it til you've tried it.

Not great, it takes me ages to inflate the ball beforehand. I want an electric one for Christmas.

Did a 30K a year gym instructor teach you that one?

No this guy was teaching for free, knowledge like that should be free. It belongs to the people.

Very much so. It's pretty much the exact same as pulling a deadlift with a round back!!
