    hi all

apologies if these are basic questions, but i've never used a PS3 so i've a couple of questions.

Currently i have a PC under my TV, on a gigabit LAN, and a HD3540 graphics card. I have my main PC upstairs with buckets of storage, and 4 shared folders, (Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos). On the PC under the TV, i have mapped to these 4 shares. Its a pretty simple setup, i use the PC under the TV for nothing else, only watching or listening to media files.

I've tried various media center apps, and didn't like the way they lumped all video into one group, found it very messy. Hence my preference to mapping to nice organised shares ;)

I was going to add a Bluray rom to it, but then i thought of the ps3 (Always on my mind to get one anyway)

Would i be able to replicate my current setup on a PS3, is there a file manager on it, that i could use to connect to my beloved shares??

EDIT: forget it, just saw that the ps3 can't play mkv format.

    Hey Gryzor!

Well... have you not heard of XBMC???

    http://xbmc.org/

I have used it on XBOX 1 and loved it currently using PS3 with TVersity but its just doesnt compare to XBMC at all.

The gui is bland with the Xros bar ui and it has no library/info functionailty for media!
Only reason for playback is for HD stuff!

XBMC relies only really on CPU speeds for decoding of media so although it wont make much use of your gfx cards ability to decode h.264 mkvs and the like download and try it its free and only 80 meg download.

You can use the browser in a library mode or as you say everything organised in folders like I do!

Best of luck and happy xmas!
    Nick

Can anyone tell me how to use Tversity? I've gone through all the help sections on the site and googled but jaysus it seems very complicated.

I've installed it on my laptop and put one video into the library to test it. There is a PS3 downstairs connected to the wifi. But it's not connected to the home network if that makes sense. It can browse the internet, play online and stuff but it can't see the other computers on the network (1 Laptop, 1 Desktop). Should it be able to? And how would I do it?

Anyway Tversity is on the laptop with one video in the library. How do I stream this to the PS3 so I can copy said video to the HDD?

    Thanks:)

    EDIT: Nevrmind, got it working
