Full time taxi drivers can only survive if they are attached to a company,so if your out this christmas play safe and book your taxi in advance. Most illegal taxis are not attached to a company, so my advise is ....if the car has no company diplayed on it, or roof sign ,,,dont get into it ,,esp,,if your female!!

Thus completing the cycle where taxi men can't survive on their own and have to share their earnings with a company?

My advice would be to take no advice from someone who uses too many commas.

But it is reputed that it was the companies who first introduced fake plates way back in the 1990s. Who is to say they still aren't doing illegal things?

Its just as easy for someone obtaining fake plates to get the fake plates printed with a company name on them... And if you're too locked to not notice the missing NCT sticker / driver ID card on dash you sure as hell aren't going to notice an empty space on the taxi plate!

Apparently, Gardai are using laptops at check points to cross reference the roof signs to the vehicle.

I think the days of the indie cab are gone, it's going to be big companies that will rule the ranks.

I think, it's time that the regulator went the route of having a standard colour and fit out for cabs. Most car companies produce a saloon car for the taxi market (like the way the produce a car spec for police forces).

Also one thing that a lot of taxi drivers need to learn is how to load or unload their passengers so they don't get killed! I once saw a taxi driver pick up passengers from the central reservation on the N11 at Belfield!

Wouldn't be so sure about that, I took a passenger into a Gard station so they could report their previous driver ( they were concerned about his erratic driving ) whom they had just paid off and called a replacement cab. The Gards said they had no access to roof numbers or driver IDs so unless they had the registration number it would have to wait until the TRs office was open for the passenger to make a complaint....

Are you on a one man mission or something ?
I drive a taxi and I dont work with a company... Im Irish and no danger to anyone... I go and find the work, unlike the rest of the sheep that q for hours on dame st with that vacant look on their faces. And before you start I wear shoes, trouser and a shirt every day I work.
I would advise people to avoid your Taxi because you are up to something.
