    Hi all,

ive been playing now for a couple of years but would still not consider myself by any means good. Ive got a an Epiphone les Paul standard and am thinkin of goin the other route of getting a strat just to liven things up. I really love the tone and versatility of the strat and have a budget of about €800. Im thinkin now is the time to buy with the currency rate in England but i was wonderin if maybe you could fill me in on the differences between a standard american strat and the deluxe model. I know the deluxe has more tone selection with the switch option but would that be worth the difference? i know its cheaper to get the standard strat maybe for about £700 but i would be willing to go further. Anyway please let me know what you guys think. O yeah im also a lefty so if anyone wants to find a nice bargain out there please bear that in mind..

    Thanks anyway.

    The deluxe has:

    1. abalone inlays on the neck
    2. locking tuners
    3. noiseless pickups
    4. S1 switch

Personally I wouldn't pay the extra cash. I think the locking tuners and noiseless pickups are great but I don't care about the inlays and I don't find the S1 switching all that useful (All I need are the standard 1 and 5 positions :) )

Third position is sweet too ;) Not a big fan of 2nd and 4th

    WHAT?
Man 4th is the best position ever, for clean tones, real poppy compressed bassy sound.
    Its bleedin great!!!

Anyway yeah, i dont see all the point in paying extra for the delux. (never thought id hear myself say that)

If you don't mind going second hand you might want to check out some Strat Plus's on Ebay. My '93 Plus kills my 07 Standard and was only half the price. Not to mention they look way cooler than the Standards or Deluxes!

out of curosity, who is a good seller of fenders on ebay? or do you just look at all fender auctions? is there a store that gives really good prices for fenders on ebay?

I generally just browse all Fender ads and for the most part I have got some amazing bargains. However, I got a Surf Green Strat dirt cheap off Ebay from the US recently which got damaged in the post and now I'm out import duty and return shipping, so just be aware of the risks involved :(

IMHO the headstock on the Deluxe is a bit odd looking. The ferrules (?) are too big and the logo is garish. I'm sure they're fine guitars though.

Do the Deluxes still come with the crumby molded cases? The new cases that come with the Standards look a lot more durable.

i have the deluxe strat hss and i love it,the out of phase positions are in some cases better than the standard settings,i played a standard strat in a shop the other day and i am glad i went for the deluxe.if you dont mind spending a few quid more or second hand i would go for the deluxe.
