Try plugging the box in and out again? I notice channels sometimes disappear for me and that fixes it.

On digital maybe, he said analogue though.

Basic digital is cheaper than analogue now. But he might have multi room and so still be using analogue too.

Yeah, its analogue. When you have the basic Digital package you continue to recieve analogue don't you ? I ask because we watch TV from 4 different rooms in the house on occaision. The reason we have not moved to digital yet is because we had it in the past ( probably 7 or 8 years ago ) the service was dire, and they ****ed up our bill at least 5 times. So we don't really want to change anything so that there is no way they can **** is with the crazy bills again.

Anyway, is no one else expeariencing this outage of just one channel ?

Oh of course, analogue plugs directly into the TV so no box. My stupid.

In Limerick they've recently replaced Paramount on analogue with Living - what a waste of space of a channel

Well basic digital is cheaper than analogue now, so you can just feck the box in the corner, still is cheaper.

You can buy a hard disk DVR for analog instead of renting NTL's DVR. Which isn't a great DVR.

I love the way multiroom has sprung up as a way of getting more money for something you used to have for free. (Cablelink era) . Other than the decoder, it costs NTL nothing to give you "multiroom".

But analogue cable is crap! Bad picture, no widescreen (except on the broken channels), no stereo on most channels, feck all channels (17 here), and so on. And who knows when they'll switch off analogue cable? It'll be useless in a few years, whereas UPC will be obliged to upgrade their own DVRs accordingly with new technology (HD if that ever happens, etc.).

For a lot of people analogue and 17 or less channels is all they need. A lot of the extra digital channels are dire, or just endless repeats. They are obviously letting the analogue degrade to force people over to digital. When its working properly analogue looks ok on a CRT. Also the UPC DVR isn't a great box. Its slow and buggy. Its a pale shadow of sky+ for more or less the same cost. Once they drop analog i think a lot of people will go to Sky+ instead of going with UPC digital. Because they'll have had such poor service from UPC with the analog uesystem.

Just out of interest - do you still pay for the analogue feed even though your paying for digital & only use that with UPC?

So if you had the digital max @ 35 euro you'd be paying nearly 60 quid without sport & movies??

No, you do not pay for both, it is 35 Euro for everything.

I put a query into UPC about 1xdigital point and the rest analogue and they told me that I needed both digital and analogue subs at the guts of €60. Needles to say, that put paid to that idea very quicky.

    Whitey

That makes no sense to me.

AFAIK Once you get UPC cable into the house you get both the digital and the aoalogue signal on the cable. Legally you can only use the one you paid for. They also charge you extra fee for each extra point in the house. Even if you are just using the analogue. Some areas might not have analogue. Dunno what they do there.

Yes but there are a few good ones like BBC 3, 4, More 4, and Dave is OK if it's something you haven't seen yesterday or last week :)
When its working properly analogue looks ok on a CRT.
Not if you have a widescreen TV, unless you like fatheads. Reception varies greatly depending on where you are, and here in Limerick it's really not great on anything bigger than a 14" and even then Setanta is mostly unwatchable. And the sound is awful on every channel but the Irish terrestrials.
Also the UPC DVR isn't a great box. Its slow and buggy.
It's not that bad, though I've had a lot less trouble with it than some others here. And it's a much better solution than gammy analogue cable and a DVR with an analogue tuner which will be obsolete in a few years

I think you're not getting my point. Which is if you want a basic package and minimal cost, and aren't that fussy, and on a tight budget, then analogue and an analogue DVR isn't all that bad. We use it for the kids and soaps (groan). This assumes you get a decent signal though. If you have a good signal then analogue is ok on a CRT of any size. If you suffer from poor signal quality (where you are obviously) then its pointless trying to watch analogue. Digital gives a consistently good quality. (ignoring compression etc). Analogue will be dropped soon enough anyway, and you'll have to pay extra for the NTL DVR. Obviously you wouldn't use analogue for your 46" flatscreen, because if you can afford that, you are interested in better quality etc.
