Does nobody with blonde hair dye it?

Okay, this seems like a bit of a stupid question, but... I'm thinking of dying my (blonde) hair some mad colour, so I went online looking for images of blonde roots, just to prepare myself for the worst. But there seems to be practically nothing out there. Is it just that nobody with blonde hair dyes it or what? Are blonde roots just too terrible to photograph?

Blonde people do dye their hair, but they most often go even blonder with highlights.
I once had a boss with blonde hair who used to have red henna put in (professionally!) and it went the most beautiful shade of red.

Dita von Teese's real hair colour is blonde.

My hair is blonde, looks almost grey coming through compared to my brightness red dyed hair, so I dye it more regularly than my brown haired sister as it looks way worse than her brown roots coming through dark blonde dye. :o But yeah, any blonde friends I have are SUPER blonde. :)

OP, I'd love to see a photo of your natural blonde hair!
There's so few girls with naturally blonde hair!
I love being blonde... I'll never be brunette again.

Hm that's not too encouraging! I was concerned that if I died my hair a dark colour when it started growing out it'd look like I was going bald where the blonde roots were... if that makes any sense.

And bigpinkelephant, I'd show you if there were ANY good photographs of me on the internet. : p

Meh, dying my blonde hair sounds too much like effort. It's fine the way it is.

I'm naturally blond but have dyed my hair a chocolatey brown. I think the colour is way more striking on me than blond, and makes blue eyes stand out more. Better for my colouring too, and I have dark eyebrows anyway, so it looks less 'fake', even though it is!

Taram is right though, fair roots coming through dark hair is NOT a good look! :) It's easy to keep the colour topped up with semi permanents though ....

Depending on how thin your hair is, it can look a bit like a bald patch. But you should be fine as long as you're happy to dye it regularly. And you have the added bonus of not having to worry about exactly what shade it will go!

I dye my hair - usually a light brown or red... anything darker then that makes me look pale and ill :(

I love it, and will never go back to blonde :D

Hm, I used some terrible blue dye once and my hair went turquoise... And not a good shade at all. : p

I'm not really planning on dyeing my hair permanently, I'm mostly just bored of blonde for now... if I used semi-permanent dye would roots still be a problem?

They might be, because semi-permanent colours often don't wash out completely. They could leave your hair very dull looking.

Wasn't it turquoise purely because there was so much hair and not nearly enough dye? :pac: Oops.. I can dye hair properly, swears!

I have mid-dark blonde hair and i dyed it brown a few years ago......it looked like i was going grey when my roots started to come through!!
I went then with blonde highlights with brown low lights and it looks so much better - far more natural looking and i get ages outta the highlights!!

That's exactly what it tends to look like, particularly if you're very light blonde naturally.

The other issue to consider is that if you're planning to go very dark, you'll have to have your hair stripped if you ever want to go back to your natural colour. It's either that or let it completely grow out, and imagine how that'll look after a few months.

Oh and another word of warning - while vibrant reds look fab initially, prepare for them to go very pink over blonde hair, unless you're prepared to get the colour done literally every 6 weeks or so.

The problem with dying blonde hair is that once you dye your hair you will never get your natural colour back until it has completely grown out.

Pink in a bad way? I don't mind too much about having pink hair, so long as it doesn't look like an old salmon.

As far as the growing out thing goes... yeah that could be tricky. I think if I get semi-permanent dye, if it doesn't wash out hopefully the roots won't be TOO obvious, and if they are... worst case scenario I get my hair cut much shorter, which I don't mind either (I'm really sick of my hair, if that hasn't come across yet. : p)

LivingDeadGirl; do you get it dyed frequently so?

No, I put it in on Hallowe'en(semi permanent) and expected it to be out by now, no chance. After continually scrubbing my hair and scalp I've gotten it out of the roots, just about, and it isn't as jet black all over as it was. I was advised by a hairdresser to use Fairy Liquid to get it out, but that it'll destroy my hair. I'm never dying it again after this. I want my hair back. It's not that the black doesn't suit me, it's just the fact that I can't get it out that's freaking me out. It looks silly now with blonde roots anyway. Washing it with Fairy for the first time tonight, wish me luck. :(

That's just black dye for you. You have to be careful with it.

Don't let one bad experience put you off it. If you dyed your hair any unnatural colours they'd come out much easier on blonde

dont worry op, blonde roots are not bad atal....I've got naturally blonde hair and my highlights are alot lighter than my natural hair colour, but roots don't come through half as bad as somebody who has naturally brown hair for example...most of the time it just blends in! Swear to god! :) I only usually get my highlights done around 4/5 times a year, it's great :pac:

The problem is that semi permanent colours usually have a low level of peroxide in them, so they never really wash out fully. You should go to a salon - depending on how it looks they might be able to shift it with a 'peroxide wash'. If not, it might be worth getting some highlights in to brighten it while it grows out.
    Good luck.

Growing it out isn't really an option, it'd take about six years, my hair grows really slowly and it's very long and curly. I might just have it dyed back to my original colour, it'll probably destroy my hair but I can't see any other way out. :(

That would probably be the best solution - or even get some gentle highlights put in. If you use good conditioners your hair will be fine.
    Good luck :)

I'm blonde and decided to go red a few years ago, it was a disaster, it went pink after about 2 washes, took me ages to get it back to blonde again, had to keep getting highlights and waiting for it to grow out:(

My sister is a darker blonde than me and has recently gone brown, it's lovely but she has to dye her hair twice already, as the colour is fading so quickly.

Remember you will propably need new makeup as well as I know my usual makeup looked way to pale when I went red.

Highlights with black? Can't picture that.

Blonde base tint, soft highlights on top - very nice :). And better than just slapping a tint on to kill the black.

Head and Shoulders is meant to be good for getting rid of colour.

Leighton Meister (blair in Gossip Girl) is a natural blonde!

Not really sure what that is but I'll believe you! :) I'll probably go see a hairdresser about it in the next week or so(it'll be my third time ever in a hairdressers, my mom cuts my hair! :P).
