Panasonic Freesat TV Connection help

    Hi,

I recently bought the Panasonic TX37LZD81 which has freesat HD built in. When I was setting it up I put one of the cables from my sky+ box into the TV and it set up perfectly.

My dish runs my sky+ and my ordinary multi-room skybox. I want to connect another cable to the LNB and into the back of my TV to get free say but most companies are looking £80+ sterling to connect it. My dish is about 3 metres from the satellite dish and I think I could do this myself.

Would my LNB be able to handle another cable and any advice on what I would need and the best way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

If your LNB has a spare connector, then it's a simple matter of running a new lead from the spare connector to your tv. That's what I did, time-consuming part was routing the cable from back of house through to room at front of house. I'm assuming your dish is easily accessible.

By the way, If you're not used to messing with this kind of stuff, be careful not to knock the dish out of position - that will bork thing for you.

It sure is. Its at the back of the house on top of the kitchen so I can get to it easily via a ladder. The LNB has 3 cables coming out of it and seems to have at least 3 spare ones.

Would it be a case of picking any spare one?

    Thanks.

Sounds surprisingly similar to my own setup - yip, you can choose any spare LNB socket and away you go. Please note my comment above about not moving the dish or arm and LNB out of their alignment. You can get a 10m satellite extensioin cable from Argos fairly cheaply - I make my own, but you don't need to be messing around with that. Get some self-amalgamating tape from Maplins and wrap it around the connection between the new lead and the LNB, it will help preventing rain or condensation getting into the connection - you can do this later when you get the tape, it doesn't have to be immediate.

Sorry for sounding like a moron but could you recommend any?

I've just seen Tony's reply above about using good quality cable - given that it's outdoors, I'll retract my comment about the extension cable from Argos - it would probably do for the short-term though, unless you have experience in making satellite cables or you can get a local Sat installer to make one up for you to the right length.

If you want to make it yourself, and subject to any advice Tony would give you (he does satellite stuff for real, I'm just an amateur messer!), you could buy this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=278 they'll cut you however many meters you need, F-Connectors - the CT125 ones http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=10447 and one of these for stripping the cable properly - totally gnick - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=4258. You might find it easier to get a local installer to make the cable for you, but it's up to you really.

You dont sound like a moron :) TX100 or if you are near a b and q get some PF100. Theres a you tube video on my site showing how to terminate an F connector, you may find this helpful.
