A bit of Christmas positivity

Just home after battling the wind and headcase taxi drivers who, despite driving more than most seem to pay the least attention.

Was a bit grrr when it came to making the right turn into my street when a driver acknowledged my right signal and flashed to let me turn. After all the us and them crap on the forum for the last couple of days/weeks/years and my mood, this simple act gave me a huge lift and it's a nice way to start the weekend.

Any other tales of drivers and cyclists treating each other with courtesy and respect? I'm feeling genuinely positive and want some more :)

its not that it gets no attention, its just that on the other "bastard drivers" threads its people sharing their similar experiences, as with this one their are none....

once when I was out for a spin with my little brother, he punctured. I got impatient with him, and let him change the tube himself. He promptly snapped the valve off the spare.

Dad was an hour a way from us, so we waited. A passer by brought us to his house, into his parlour and we sat and drank coffee with his family and had cake until a lift arrived. In lycra and all. Felt like such a spoon. But people can be nice. :)

most drivers are considerate... that's why stories about them being so are mundane.

I agree that most of the time, drivers (even taxis and buses!) are 'aware' of cyclists (considerate is a bit of a stretch). We must coexist therefore there is usually a balance.

But 'tis the season' to be aggressive' therefore ANY consideration on the road, even from pedestrians, is an anomaly. The past week has been MAYHEM on city centre streets and I can't figure out what's wrong with everyone!

I find that making eye contact and acknowledging a good turn (even if it wasn't intended) is appropriate. Maybe motorists wouldn't despise cyclists so much if we were a little more courteous.

That said, I've had my share of experiences with incompetent drivers and I'm not always so polite when I'm cursing them down and kicking their car doors.

On a similar note, I think guys get a harder time from motorists than women. Maybe because we're so dainty and helpless...or maybe it's because they like staring at our bums ;)

I'm a taxi driver and I've had several occassions recently when considerate cyclists have yielded to allow me to turn right so there's hope for us all yet.

I've seen a lot of drivers recently being nice, and letting me out and the like. (The opposite's true too, but I think the ratio is moved towards positive all the same.)

I have to say it's made me a lot more likely to be nice in return!

I posted a tale of rage here a couple of weeks ago, and at the time I was thinking I needed to steel myself for another couple of weeks of increased hazards with all the stressed out drivers in town.

Happy to say that so far so good and, on balance, a better December than last year. Certainly no more hazardous than any other time of year.

I wish I had a tale to tell of consideration and positive vibes exchanged between cyclist and motorist, but nothing specific comes to mind.

    Merry Christmas one and all.
    :)

Occasionally in slow moving traffic car will pull out to the white line so I can undertake with more clearence when they see me in their wing mirror. It's either courtesy or said driver doesnt want me to take off said mirror. I do lift my hand as a sign of thanks and then think "he must be a cyclist himself" :)

I've been keeping an eye out for a "I'd really rather be on my bike" rear window sticker for the motor :)

Out on our Christmas club spin yesterday we had cars on two occasions put on their hazards and flash their lights to let us make a right hand turn, granted there was a pack of about 25 of us but it was acknowledged each time with a lot of waves of thanks as we crossed in front!
