There's something special about this time of the year... what is it?

No, not Christmas! Optimus Prime rose again, you don't see him harping on about it.

I love the dark and I love being home in the dead of night, especially when it's freezing outside and there's something very calming about the quietness you get in parks etc this time of year. I actually feel 20% happier around now because I really do love the dark, and the calm. I used to work in retail, so I used to have to face the thronging masses this time of year. It's given me a real appreciation for peace and quiet.

Oh and I know the 21st is important to some of you, so a big shout out to the pagan massive. :)

This forum is all about celebrating those who are different in some way, working different hours to the masses, being up late, enjoying "alternative" entertainment to those around you...

Is there any reason you enjoy this time of year which isn't christmas related? Your little nocturnal playing away inside while you smile about your gaudily wrapped present externally?

the quiteness....im working alot of nights lately..coming home at 5am-6am and stiting in the conservatory or on the patio and watching the approaching dawn or the tips of the forrest above the fog at the back or my house...knowing that while others feer the quiteness of the long winter night i am at my most confortable there....i also find it easier to train in the winter...i dont know why but i prefer leaving the gym in darkness hours than leaving it in the summer maybe im just weird

Walking home at night at this time of year is cool. It's almost meditative. Was halfway home last night before I remembered to get a taxi.

Clear night skies. The frost makes everything so sharp. I always feel that anything could happen, its magical. :)

The stars. And the snow gives everything an ethereal glow at night. I hate winter, but I have to admit its gorgeous.

I just love that it is dark so much. Left the flat for work this morning, it was still dark and it just made me smile. Have always preferred it being dark, maybe its something to do with growing up in the middle of nowhere.

I can remember as a kid finding it really hard to sleep at relatives houses because it never got dark in the towns. And because most of my friends/relatives live in towns, the really dark night of the countryside just feels like home.

If you can read this, you're too close!

FYI Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, not his ressurection.
Actually it's about the supression of paganism but we won't go into that here!

That nice feeling only lasts until January when you start losing the will to live cos there's nothing to look forward to.

If I ruled the world I would get rid of Jan-March. And have two Saturdays in every week.

yeah i have to agree with that....i love when its frosty instead of rainy and its all so sharp. you can almost imagine stuff like extra worlds (ie His Dark materials) just being a slice of the air away!

<eh sorry if that only makes sense to little old me!>

I have to agree, it reminds me of freezing my ass off looking at the stars. It also reminds me of repeatedly whipping my brothers rear in table tennis so he'd have to do late night chores ;).

Cold weather running. There's something that feels almost cleansing about it. :)

    (yes, I'm ****ing nuts)

Best thing about this time of year is that midgets will find employment so easy to come by!

It might be about his birth but no one would care if he didn't, you know, do the zombie thing. :)

What I love about this time of year is the fact that I have the feeling of being alone in the world when I'm out prowling about late at night, with the snow crunching under my feet. Thank you for recognizing the fact that for some of us the 21st was a very important day.

Winter is definitely my favourite season, with December being my favourite month.
Aswell as having my birthday and Christmas I love the snow (on the rare occassions it comes) and wrapping up nice and warm in cold weather.
I also love how it gets so dark early in the evenings - nothing nicer than sitting in front of a warm fire in the evening when it's pitch dark outside.

    *sings*

"It's the most wonderful time of the year

    la la la la la
    I don't know the lyrics
    something something
    cheer....

It's the most wonderful time of the yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaar."

    I absolutely love winter.

I love the clothes - having a big heavy coat on and a scarf and a hat and when i breathe you can see it in the air.

I got rained on the other day, then had to sit on a but soaking wet for an hour. My OH collected me from the bus stop with my pup, and when I got home the fire was lit and a big bowl of soup and bread was keeping warm for me. Happiest I've been in ages.

I love the crispy air, I usually head out the back with a glass of wine and a few cigs and stand there for a few mins, just looking around and not thinking about anything.

I love the fact most of the insects are gone. :)

I love the way my cats seem constantly sleepy in the winter, all they want to do is cuddle.

I think trees without leaves are as pretty as trees with leaves. And nothing is more beautiful than the view out my bedroom on a very frosty or snowy morning. (I will post a pic as soon as I got one actually)

I love the food you eat in winter, loads of carbs and garlic and cheese. Red wine is just so much nicer when it's cold out. Good hearty soup and things like that.

Oh, pubs in the winter just feel friendlier too, because you're so reluctant to leave to go into the cold, and then there is the open fire in my local. It's so cheery.

I love the time off work and seeing people I don't see often enough.

I really hope we get snow this year so I can see Harley discover somthing else thats new to him.

    HOT CHOCOLATE

    Look how pretty this is!

Heh. That place looks familiar. Almost like the wildlands. Almost.

I enjoy the cold, chill of the air during the winter. If your head is a bit groggy from sleep or more likely alcohol, then one big deep breath seems to just clear out your system.

And then to come home to a nice roaring fire. I know you can do that anytime of the year but there is something extra about seeing a open fire in the winter time.

Any who doesn't enjoy trying to skate on the frozen streets?

Still I saw sheltered in the leeside of a building the first flowers of spring starting to poke up out of the ground and in the park by the pond cherry blossoms trees coming into bloom,
    spring is coming.

Almost, hopefully not too familiar a view for you Nerin, otherwise I would have to question why you are sitting on my windowsill?

Ok ok, I know, I'm posting pics of him everywhere but did you see the one of him in his gay biker hat. So cute!

Am I the only noc forum user who for the few weeks of relative warmth we get here, hangs up her bat wings and enjoys things like camping on the beach, bbq's etc. (Just realised that as much as I enjoy these things, they are more fun at night.)

Doomy, what are you talking about, being nocturnal is great in the summer!
