Only thing you should fiddle with is display settings.

maybe the audio (if you have connected the optical to an amp)

2 days in and have one issue already:

With no warning the screen goes blank, have to change to another input and then back to hdmi input to get screen back. This happened twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday.
I thought that it may be the hdmi slot even though i never had this issue with the bluray player i have, so I changed to the other slot and the issue happened again.
Now I have changed the hdmi cable and shall see what happens tonight.

Has this happened to any one else ? It does have the latest software download.

Some people like to turn "Instant Rewind" off. When it's on everything that's being watched live is constantly being written to the hard disk, meaning the disk is getting heavy usage. Whether this is harmful in any way is a matter of debate but if (like me) you never use the instant rewind feature then turning it off seems to make (some?) sense. This doesn't affect the "pause live TV" functionality at all.

I second this. Having the hard drive active constantly inevitably will lead to earlier failures whether that be in 1 or 2 or 5 years. Also, the additional heat may contribute to earlier failures in other electronics like the power supply.

I must add that I do understand that the drive is always "on", except when the box powers down, but I believe there are a few extra watts consumed when actively seeking rather than spinning idle.

I manually added it by following the instructions at the top of the satellite page.

    Update:
This issue is still occuring at random, rang back the installer and he shall be back out next week to have a look. I believe that it is related to the box, I have taken advise and turned off instant rewind but no joy.

You haven't stated the make/model of your TV or Digibox. This problem has been reported previously and seems to be an incompatibility between the Digibox and the TV. The "cure" may be to change either the Digibox or the TV for a different model.

But first, if you have the Digibox connected to the TV by HDMI cable *and* Scart, disconnect the Scart.

    Thanks Sam,

The HD box is the Thompson model and the tv is a Sony Bravia. The box has already had frozen recordings etc.

The engineer called out yesterday and said that there was an issue with the HDMI slot and replaced the box with another Tompson. Interesting the new box didn't come out of a SKY HD Box just a regular brown box.

The issue I have today is that the box is like a motor running all the time. I turned off instant rewind and sky anytime but it will not shut up, I expect some noise but this is something else. In fairness if you buy a product you should not need to be turning off the features for it to run smoothly.

This "new" box is a way louder than the other box, the model of the box is the same but the version is 4E3004 instead of 4E3011, don't know if that makes any difference.

Going to ring them back one last time and if the company doesn't resolve it I will cancel the whole thing with sky.

Got another Sky HD box, but have noticed that I get a lot of "Recording Interrupted" and please wait, but alas no joy, the recording is lost.

Tired to record a couple of programmes last night and all of the now state "Recording Interrupted" please wait.

Any suggestions on what the issue may be.

With regards the recording error, you may need to ring sky and get your sky card re-paired to the new box.

I had the same problem and occurs as a result of the box not being paired to the card. In my case it took 2 calls to Sky to sort this out - they asked me for serial and model of the box also - so I guess they manually paired the card and box and re-sent the setup out again to the box. I did have to also power down and up again as well and for some strange reason it then worked !!!

All back up and working now, thanks guys, it was the pairing of the latest sky HD box with my viewing card that resolved the issue.

    Thanks again.
