I bet there are quite a few people in finance who have broken out into a cold sweat wondering when they're going to get found out. When there were plenty funds around, it was a lot easier to hide this kind of thing.

    Really, this is sickening stuff.

Was listening to the radio this morning with rising disbelief.

The absolute gutlessness and corruption of this country. If there was somewhere to go, I'd almost go at this stage.

Why are the boards of the banks not being cleaned out as a requirement to avail of the state guarantee? WHY? I mean, what else could they do wrong at this stage. The interests of their shareholders have not been protected. Only massive state intervention has saved them.

It's not illegal, afaik. It's just not considered common practice, or best practice. Thus no cover-up of the covering up is required.

I think that there are only a handful of banks on the planet that have accepted any responsibility for what's happened in recent times. The rest of them seem to be keeping their mouths shut, and their heads down.

The reason they're not firing all the heads of the banks is because there all at it. If they did then there would be absolutly no confidence in the sector resulting in ireland inc. goin down the drain.

This loan was taking out 8 years ago and never paid back and the regulator knew about it back in january ffs!
If the regulator knew then surely the gov. knew?!

Lenihan and co. know this, so the game now is to re-capitalise the banks whilst keeping all this on the Q.T.

The best way these guys could be punished is to go after their wealth. Money and greed are their motivation so hit them where it hurts. The revenue will go after him now for 'benefit-in-kind' which is due to be paid on the loan. Happy days !

This guy should be hung by his balls and shot with his own sh1t. Remember the speech he made in October?
....The richest banker in Ireland took a swipe at the poor. He believed it was time to tackle the “sacred cow” of child benefit, state pensions, old people on medical cards etc. Developers Sean Mulryan and Sean Dunne were billed to address the same dinner but wisely bowed out. Sean Fitz stole the show with his breathtaking lack of sensitivity. Were we really witnessing this clanger in the same week when the poorest taxpayers had bailed out the richest bankers?

Re-listening to Paddy Kelly, one of Irelands wealthiest developers on "Conversations with Eamo" a few weeks ago brought a smile to my face in light of the recent events at Anglo Irish. They were talking about the banks and the danger of them going under when Mr Kelly came out with this peach:
"Im thinking..,say of,the skill and the.... of Anglo Irish and the people involved in it.You know those people are so creative.Youll find as the weeks go on Anglo are in very good shape and you'll be surprised how good, and the quality of the people in there!Again I bring you back to golf.Where does Tiger put the second shot?Watch Anglo"

    In the bunker perhaps?

I have to agree with him when he describes them as creative, certainly the accounts dept, and with two of their "quality" people gone and more halfway down the plank ,I wonder if they are really in the great shape he speaks of.Indeed Mr.Kelly, watch Anglo.

Thinking creatively, if the Criminal Assets Bureau went after the wealth of anyone and everyone *actually convicted* of ill-gotten gaining, sure we could pay for the health service out of it.
