got the dish but which box to get?

    Hi all, I moved into a new place out in Headford Galway and there's a sat dish on the house so I'm thinking of getting one of those free sat boxes from alantic home care/maplin etc.. what do I need to know?
    like does it matter what type of dish is on the house is there a better range of channels with one box than another? can I record and save stuff to an external hard drive? will I need to learn how to tune in specific stations will I have to fiddile with the dish from time to time. will it record things if I program it to and all the rest..
