Heard about this earlier on.. and I'll say the same thing now as I said then..

Until I see a press release / confirmation from the actors or director, I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

Sounds like complete nonsense. Just more of the same idle speculation.

Everyone thought the same when Heath Ledger was confirmed to play "The Joker" but still, this doesn't sound good.

Will Eddie Murphy play 4 or 5 different characters in the film? :(
Do we need Robin at all?

    *shudder*

whatever about Murphy as the riddler (don't see it happening) I can't see Robin being in the next one at all. I don't see how he could fit in to the world Nolan has created in the first two movies - we now have a Batman being hunted as a murderer, purposefully pushing himself away, why would he bring some kid in on this with himself?

Also, it would seem an odd move to introduce Riddler and Robin in the same movie, as that has already been done.

Not true - i was delighted, said at the time i reckoned he could play the Joker I wanted him to play (and he did, more so than i thought he could in fact)

I really hope that is just speculation/drivel. 'Robin' FFS !!!! Eddie murphy concievably could make a good riddler - going by the sorts of movies he has made for the last few years its hard to know if he would be a good enough actor to make it fit with the current bale series of villains.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭JaneyMc

Really not impressed with this, I don't have much of a liking for Murphy as it is, and I had heard rumours that Johnny Depp was going to play the Riddler, which would have been amazing.

As for Catwoman and Robin, I don't like either character.

I don't think we'll see Robin in any of Nolan's Batman films, it's just not the right setting.

    Besides... http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37328

I think Christian Bale has a very big say in the movies :)

Yeah, these things always make me laugh. How these minor paper/sites seem to have the "Inside scoop". Always remember the Star "CONFIRMING" That they had inside info from Scissor Sisters that Zeppelin were going to tour. apparently they became good friends after SS covered Zeppelin's hit "Comfortably Numb" Yep...... I know

    Anyway

As you said, bringing Robin in would not work with the way the last one ended. Don't get me wrong, I like LeBeuf and, in another version of Batman I think he would bring a decent edge to Robin. And I don't think he'll go with Rachel Weitz for Selena Kyle (Although at least she would be a more interesting choice than Angelina Jolie)

The casting for Nolan's spin has always been very interesting. It was always a case of: Oh yeah... I can really see that working.

I'm still hoping he'll get Paul Bettany in there somewhere (Remember the stories about him as the Joker? That would have been interesting too). He could make an interesting Riddler. But whatever about the Riddler I would lay money on Selena Kyle being in 3
    since they killed Rachel.

Utter nonsense. Bale does want Robin and Nolan commented negatively on the Robin character before too.

I reckon the Riddler is an unlikely candidate for the next film given in previous interviews the writers had greater interest in some of the villians that didnt make any of the Batman movies or tv shows.

Just read "The long halloween" and its sequel "Dark Victory" and you'llprobably get a good enough idea where they probably will go with it.Reckon its highly possible that we'll see the final part of the old schoolgangsters being replaced by supervillians.
Total bull by the way about Murphy and Robin. For one Bale stated he'd refuse to come back if Robin was in the movie and Nolan also stated that they would veer away from using characters that already appeared in previous movies(bar the Joker, as he's a massive part of the universe). There are a **** load of other villians bar the ones people seem to be transfixed with i.e . Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman et al.If anyone is probably going to be in it it will be Bane or the return of Raz al Goul.

oh and heres an article saying its all aload of balls, by the President of Warner Brothers

Which is why they went with scarecrow, joke and two face thus far? I'd say its bull, if only because the people involved have been so tight with information on the previous films. I do think that whoever is picked for whatever role, will be right for it. The big names involved in batman begins and the dark knight will get the most out of whoever they pick. I guess the only concern would be that to date they have gone with the biggest stars possible, so there weren't many question marks over performances, attraction, etc. Not sure Murphy and LeBeouf are in that category.

First that Le Bouf **** interferes with Indiana Jones and Transformers now he's sticking his head in a Batman movie, is he just going to go back in time and molest me when I was a kid.

Scarecrow was never a mainstream villian on screen. The joker card at the end of BB was put in as a nod to fans as nolan's admission. He never originally originally intended to make a sequel or a sequel with the joker. Fanboyism did put some pressure to bring the character to the screen.

cant comment on two face, i never liked him as a villian but Dent's role in TDK was justified.

    +1

I hate Le Boef and God help us all if Eddie "man of a thousand voices" Murphy turns up in this film, even as an extra

Shia le-whatever as Robin? I'd rather Chris O'Donnel TBH!

Yeah I realised after I posted that that scarecrow hadn't been in the tv series afaik. Do you really think he didn't intend to do a sequel?? As soon as I saw it I thought it was such an obvious opening for the next film, plus the way the superhero franchises sell atm I'd be surprised if they weren't signed into a multiple movie deal from the start? Yeah I liked the way two face was brought into the dark knight, both sides of him were important to the story. But he was already dealt with in plenty of detail in previous films is what I was trying to say.

Christopher Nolan has admitted that the next batman film will be hard to make after the sucess of the dark knight. Well I think it just got harder if the rumors are to be believed.
Eddie Murphy is being cast as the riddler and Shia LaBeouf as robin. FFS Eddie Murphy hasn't made a goodfilm since the eighties and Shia LaBeouf seems to me to be used in big movies these days. Personally this is bad casting and if true will definitely not live up to either of Nolan's batman movies.

i could see labouef is robin, kinda got that geeky not much of a hero vibe going on, but murphy as the riddler??? christ sake, surely the would have scores of better actors lining up to take on such a role after the previous success of this series

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

Its the biggest bull**** article I've ever read. Everyone knows that there's no story treatment and Nolan hasn't signed up, hence no casting or anything. HOWEVER The Sun suddenly reckons they have a title ("Gotham"), Nolan signed on, a story treatment with a "shocking cliffhanger", and the announcements of Murphy, Weiscz and bloody Shia as Robin, a character both Nolan and Bale said will NOT be brought back. Wow at least 5 world exclusive there and all crap :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

Anyone else remember the fanboy/girl speculation for MONTHS over who would play the Joker? And the nerd-rage when Heath Ledger was cast? Christopher Nolan appears to be pretty good at casting the right actors for the jobs and I doubt he'd go with the horrifically cliched choices of Angelina Jolie catwoman/Philip Seymour Hoffman penguin(as much as I love him)/Johnny Depp riddler/etc.

And anyway, Nolan has said that there will be no Robin.

“If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I ’ll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work.” - Christian Bale

I assumed he wanted a sequel too but any interview i read with him at the time he said he hadnt one planned and made the comment about why he threw in the Joker card.

Tbh, if this is true, and with Nolan's guidance and a proper approach from Murphy, it could be a stroke of genius.

A representative for Eddie Murphy's denied the actor will take on the role of The Riddler in a new Batman movie.
Earlier this week a British tabloid newspaper claimed the Beverly Hills Cop star would take on the villainous quizmaster character in the latest outing in the Caped Crusader franchise.
The part was made famous by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever.
And the publication also suggested actor Shia Labeouf would play young crimefighter Robin, alongside returning Batman Christian Bale.
But Murphy's representative has refuted the claims, telling Access Hollywood the reports are "not true".
The movie, tentatively titled Gotham, is slated for a 2010 release.

    Thank God

So who would make a good Riddler?
I don't think the Riddler is a good character but maybe Ben Foster for no other reason than that he is a good up and coming actor.

I'd like to see Julia Stiles as catwoman tho. I think she'd be great in that role.

    http://www.totalfilm.com/news/mcg-to-direct-batman-3

You already know that Eddie Murphy will be playing The Riddler in the new Batman movie, but who will be directing him?

totalfilm.com can exclusively reveal that Christopher Nolan is officially off Batman 3: The Darker Knight, and McG has signed on to replace him.

Speaking from the moon, McG said: "I went to Great England to seek Nolan's approval. He said that he knows how tough it is to follow a brilliant film, after his experiences on Memento 2: I Still Can't Remember Where I Put My Keys."

He added: "Christian Bale wanted to sign up for the movie, but I'm a bit bored of working with him after Charlie's Angels: Salvation, so I've cast a horse as Batman. We're working on teaching him to talk at the moment."

McG has also cast an angry bear as Alfred and M Night Shyamalan as Catwoman.

"James Cameron is teaching me how to make 3D movies," McG said. "Because Batman 3D is a really good title for a film."

What total film had to say.

To be honest I got this tripe from digital spy who now have eddie murphy's rep denying the story and the president of warner coming out and stating that nolan will not be rushed into making the sequel, so the nightmare ends.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

I remember thinking Ledger was the wrong man for Joker and being very nervous about seeing his performance, but he was far, far better than I'd expected (although I don't think the job he did couldn't have been replicated by a handful of other actors - I just think he did about as good a job as was possible by anyone.)

Despite this I wouldn't give Nolan the benefit of the doubt on Murphy or the return of Robin (Regardless of the actor) so I'm thankful that this is all absolute bullshít. I'll just be happy to see a third film getting the green light (and the right players on board); then I'll worry about the characters and actors chosen.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the Riddler gig to be given to Robin Williams anyway :D

It was funny though matchthis. Side note to the robin thing; The blonde kid in batman begins to be the young guy who grows up to be robin in the third movie? I think it would be the obvious tie in between the two, and I got the impression (watching BB last night) that he was being watched for a reason? Maybe I'm just obsessed with the idea of comic book franchises, but I think its been proven overall that they are what the companies want.

According to TDK Christopher Nolan BD Live interview the other day, the ball is in Nolan's court seemingly as to what happens in the movie. He's is still working on it but there is no script and no one seems to know what its going to be about - except Nolan.

As faras I know the only real news about the 3rd movie came out a few weeks ago where it was kind of confirmed that Nolan was returning. There's a mag like variety in the states but its strictly a movie trade mag.In the back of it they have announcements, kind of like planning permission where the studios publish the expected production dates of up coming movies and legally have to include the people who are contracted to work on it.A movie appeared with Nolan as director and Bale and Freeman and \Caine due for production in 2010.It was totally overlooked by the majority of sites butI remember seeing it myself a while back, so if it is real at least it confirms nolaan will do the 3rd but what on will probably be a mystery till 2010 0r 11.
