I won't list it all now but one tip... PACK MORE BABYGRO'S THAN YOU THINK YOU'LL NEED!!!!!

I brought 6 thinking I'd only be in the hospital a day or two... turns out I needed an emergency c section so was stuck in hospital for four days and she went through 6 baby gro's in the first day!!! She got sick a lot... getting used to formula...

    For Mum to be :

    2 x nighties
Pair of pyjamas for after birth
    Warm socks
    Pool shoes/flipflops for shower
    2 large towels
Small washbag - shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste.
    Dressing gown
    Slippers
    Nursing bra
    Maternity pads
    Breast pads
    Nipple cream
    Phone charger
"Granny" knickers - way more comfortable post-delivery!
Comfortable going home clothes for yourself
    Phone credit voucher
    Arnica cream
    Tea tree oil

Small labour bag to have with you whilst in labour ward/delivery suite :

    Facecloths
    Glucose sweets
Bottled water (with sports cap - handy for stitches)
Outfit for new baby - nappy, vest, babygro, hat and blanket.
    Camera!
    Washbag
    TENS (if you're using it)

    Stuff for baby :

    Nappies
    Cotton wool
    5 x babygros
    5 x vests
    2/3 cellular blankets
    Hooded towel
    Cardigan
    Going home outfit
Soothers (if you plan on using them)

(These are conservative estimates - babys will go through a lot more clothes than you realise. A lot of puking and possible leaky nappies, along with babys first very messy bowel movement will mean you'll probably need more babygros and vests than anything).

You should pack on the assumption that you'll have a section - that way, you've enough stuff with you for 4-5 days. At worst, if you run out of anything, friends and family can bring it in for you.

edit : I would advise to do a practice run of fitting the car seat into the car before baby arrives. I didn't. There was SO MUCH FIDDLING.

    Hi,

If you take a look at maternitybag.ie you will see the pre packed hospital bags. They have everything for your baby in a wheeled travel bag and there is plenty of room to pack your stuff in them too.
Mammy travel/washbags are coming soon also.

Thanks and good luck with your pregnancies.

I used the list at eumom.com as my base. What I DIDN'T have enough of was nighties, underwear, bath towels, but I've moved in to the hospital at this stage, so that's hardly surprising!

I packed the minimum but left babygros, vests, nappies, nightclothes for myself, spare maternity towels etc on the bed in the spare room and sent my husband a text each day before he visited and told him what I needed. He then brought home washing from the hospital everyday. I just found that the big bags were awkward and I spent too much time rooting around trying to find stuff.

This is my third child and my experience was the less stuff you have hanging around the hospital the easier it is to find things :D Remember, the brain can get a bit foggy sometimes so think simple as that might be all you can manage in hospital :p

What kind of security is there as I was thinking of digital camera, nintendo ds ( I find scrabble very relaxing) my phone, money, possibly laptop. Don't want to go to the bathroom and find it all robbed  Am in semi private so less chance then public but still. Anyone?

I'd deff leave the laptop at home. Don't bring too much money with you, there's not much ya can buy in the shop... the food is really nice in the hospital (well i thought anyway...). The first day after your section you'll only be on a really restricted diet though (scrambled eggs is what i got for lunch and dinner was chicken and potatoe... the next day was chicken curry for dinner...).

Your ds and your camera should be fine... you probably won't get a chance to use the ds what with sleeping and looking after baby (get your sleep, you will need it...).

Different hospitals differ, but I brought nintendo ds (never took it out of my handbag!!), phone, netbook and mobile broadband modem, it was all there when I came out of the bathroom again :) I did bring them with me in my handbag when I went down to the labour ward though, on the midwife's advice. Didn't bring large quantities of cash, either.

    Hi girls,
I'm just picking up this thread because I need your help on finding a nightdress or two for the delivery. I went this morning at a Mothercare shop, but I couldn't find it. Anyone can suggest me where to buy it and at a reasonable cost? Or what you suggest me to wear?
    Thank you all.;)

I bought a load of cheap nightdresses in penneys with button down fronts - no need for expensive maternity jammies, you'll only ruin them in the delivery anyway. As long as they have the button down front you can still breastfeed, if you plan on doing so.

Thanks quackles, I went yesteray morning and today at Penneys in Swords, but they haven't. It's strange because I remembered having see them few months ago there, but now at their place there are a lot of bath suits. I should try in Dublin City center.
    Thanks again!;)

Try Guinneys for them nightdresses and put stuff seperateely in a plastic bag on top of you hospital bag.Stuff for the baby eg nappy babygro and suit that way it will be easier to find when baby is born.No need to look throught the whole bag.

    Hi girls,

is it good this nightdress for the delivery?

I had the very same one :)

Tesco have the disposable panties, and any pharmacy. They're fine for the delivery, but useless afterwards - you'd be just as well buying a packet of cheap panties you wouldn't mind destroying. The disposable ones are uncomfortable and loose.. ewww... :)

Disposable are horrible... I bought Penneys big black granny knickers and just wore those!!!

Thank you girls!I started to worry when I didn't find a nightdress!

Thanks too for the info about the panties.;):D

The one I went to in Carrickmines had a midwife from Holles St and although they did go through a few products it wasn't an 'in your face' sales pitch, just good, reassuring advice and loads of mums to be there so good to share thoughts and fears! Very welcome in my book!
