Lots of good boxers on the card but really annoyed Jamie Moore has been taken off  . Any reasons as to why? Huge knock imo, was part of the reason I got tickets. Next time I see a card with a really good boxer on the undercard who should be a headliner usually I wont bother buying them. Happened before when McCullough was scheduled to box on one of Dunnes cards.
Surely they could have got some sort of opponent for Moore.

So the rest of the card is as follows:

    Craig Watson vs Adnan Amar
    Rendall Munroe vs Fabrizio Trotta
    Jason Booth vs Sean Hughes
    Darren Sutherland vs George Iliev
    Paul Hyland vs Eugene Heagney
    Martin Power vs Gary Davies
    Kiko Martinez vs Gary Reid

How do you see them going? I only know of one fighter in each fight apart from Hyland-Heagney (which is the type of domestic fight we should see more of really)

Probably the right decision from Moore, his career has had enough set-backs with risking the European title fight.

Boxrec now have the card as:
Rendall Munroe vs Fabrizio Trotta-European title
Jason Booth vs Sean Hughes-Commonwealth title
Gary Woolcombe v Thomas McDonagh-British Eliminator
    Darren Sutherland vs George Iliev
    Paul Hyland vs Eugene Heagney
    Martin Power vs Gary Davies
    Kiko Martinez vs Gheorghe Ghiompirica
    Willie Thompson v Karl Chiverton
    Luke Wilton v Usman Ahmed

Disappointed I don't get to see Moore, Woolcombe v McDonagh is a reasonable replacement for Watson v Amar(if that is indeed off), also disappointed that Martinez's opponent has gone from a dangerous journeyman(Gavin Reid) to a guy who's sole aim is to go the distance.
Gary O'Sullivan being off the card is disappointing too but unavoidable.

Hey, early days, but what are Darren's chances to be a success in the pro game?

I keep hearing that he is suited to the game, purely because he hits hard. I don't buy it.
He hits hard no doubt, but at 168 lbs, he needs to be dynamite, because he himself takes
too many. I am not sold. I know he hasn't even thrown one punch, but
I don't think any success will come his way. I hope I am wrong!

Same with Egan should he turn pro. I don't see him going
    anywhere!

I do think he can be a success, he hits hard and is aggressive and is technically not bad, european champion level at least i would say and a challenger for world titles i would expect and then you never know!

Stopped in the 1st, a little over 2 minutes in. Threw 45 punches, landed with 26, 57% success rate. Iliev threw 52 in return, but only landed with 4 (7%). Really liked the look of Darren's jab, and he looked really composed. The body shots did the damage. Job done.

Only disapointing thing was when they pointed out his age,he is 27 in 5 months or so,to old to be only turning pro now imo
    He looked good though.

His jab looked very good indeed. Very hard hitting jab. Good debut for him.

It is getting on a bit alright; far from past it; but valid point!

Bulgarian lad 11-12 and darren 12-1 i think.

If they want to rush him like they are talking about,he should fight De Gale next, who should have already fought at that stage.

Once he beats him he can then move on quickly. No point in fighting 3 or 4 fights in the build up to face an opponent who is just as inexperienced

Makes business sense to keep both apart really!

deGale would be too muh at this stage IMO. Not deGale himself, but rather the possibility a fight against someone of DG's calibre could go >6 rounds, which is unknown territory for Sutherland. I'd rather see him go up against someone who can take a punch, throw a few back, and give him a good test over 8 rounds or so. Would Feb be too soon to expect to see him back in action?

    true.

I would think feb will make sense. He barely went a round tonight.

They will prob put him on the undercard of one of those friday fight nites.I also think the fact that he isnt with brian peters will do his career wonders, hopefully he wont end up like bernard dunne fighting journeymen for his whole career.

They're looking at having him fight 6 times in 2009, the first of which will be on the Jamie Moore undercard in early March.

Excuse my ignorance, is Sutherland Irish or American Irish.Know nothing about him apart from the sports tonight? Any Good or what ? What division?

i've seen nothing to suggest that DeGale would take Sutherland in the pro ranks. Logic actually points the other way.

Anyway I doubt they will face each other in the next three years for financial, political and career building reasons.

    taken from his bebo page:

''Was born in Dublin to an Irish mother and a west indian father.. Spent my early years living in London before moving to St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Eventually ended back up in Dublin where the family has been living ever since..
Started boxing full time when i was 15 and very quickly found i had a natural talent for it.. I love the thrill of the fight and performing in front of big crowds.. I boxed as an Amateur for over 10yrs travelling around the world competing.. I have won numerous amateur national and international titles.. My greatest achievement was an Olympic Bronze Medal for Ireland at the 2008, Beijing Olympics..''

Sutherland looked good last night. What was most impressive was how composed he was. I thought he would be the type to put on a power display and a show. He didnt let the crowd get to him when he had yer man in danger. Everyone was eggin him on and you would think he would go all out what with the atmosphere and inexperience but he didnt. Instead he stayed behind his jab and worked from there.

I thought it was funny how Trotta pulled out in the 5th. Isnt it common enough for boxers to injure hand but continue on anyway. It was a european title fight after all. Didnt have the best view i just seen munroe working away and next thing fabio waving his hand around.
Trotta won the first 2 rounds imo.

Booth - Hughes was a good fight and Hughes gave a good account for himself. Booth dropped him with a body shot in the 8th i think and Hughes was pretty limited then.

    Didnt get to see power-davis

Kiko Martinez vs Gheorghe Ghiompirica: This was interesting. Given Georgies record I knew it would go the distance (8 wins 42 losses, only one by ko)
In fairness he gave as good as he got and landed quite a few shots on Kiko. It was far closer than I thought. Kiko probably won every round but not in very convincing fashion.

Hyland vs Heagney: This was a very good fight. Hyland was the clear winner but Heagney gave him a lot of trouble and edged a couple of rounds (only seen about half of this fight)

    Wilton vs Ahmed wasnt bad.

Thompson vs Chiverton was a good fight. Both guys thinking they won and were not happy to find out it was a draw.

    In summary:
Sutherland fought very professionaly and showed qualities that suggests he will do very well for himself.

    Munroe and Martinez looked average.

Hyland had to work very hard to beat Heagney

    Booth-Hughes was a good fight.

Moore, Watson, and Amar being taken off the card was a huge blow to the card but i think its safe to say a good night was had by all. Very well attended as well. Nearly full.

Just after seeing that the scores after the 4th were 39-37, 40-36 and 40-36 to Munroe
