    Hi

I have a BA in business studies and have worked in IT for about 6 years, Im 29. I want to give my career a shot in the arm and looked into doing an MBA course. One of the places I applied to said I dont have enough experience for their MBA in International management (2 years off) but I do have enough experience for their MBA in Engineering (its a high ranking school).

Like I said I have a BA in Business so Im not a total stranger to Accountancy, marketing etc just wondering if I should wait to get more experience for the MBA in Intl Management or go for the MBA in Eng now?

In terms of employers would they differentiate the type of MBA?

    Many thanks

If you have worked for 6 years, its surprising that you are not seen to have experience. I also suggest that in general the point of an MBA is to gain a generalist not a specialist knowlege. Whats the school?

Sorry, I should have said, its management experience they are looking for. Particularly people, budgetary and international business management experience. Ive spent most of my time as a systems admin/network engineer which is more of a technical role rather than a management role so I lack that experience.

I was hoping to use the MBA to move into management but it appears it is more for existing rather than aspiring managers??

Im slightly confused- would an Msc or MA be more appropriate for a non manager looking to get into management?

The school that mentioned the MBA in Eng is Manchester Business School- though I have applied to some others.

(EDIT: I should have said enquired rather than applied- I havent actually made the formal application- just sent off the CV and spoke to the course directors)

From the look at the course they are expecting engineers, who are trying to attain "soft" skills to improve or gain entry to management. Seems to be more aimed at the technical types...

Yeh it looks to be a good fit for me (being from a tech background).

Im just wondering do employers differentiate MBA types?

(ie, is there a preferrable type of MBA?)
