Same goes with any high-street shop. Buy online from their UK site, delivery is very little.

Great tips...I'll be looking at Asos right away :D

Always always buy in a business' local currency rather than accepting their 'euro' price. You'll get a much better exchange rate from your bank than you will from companies such as asos. Their currency conversions will always be a rip off.

Same applies when you're abroad and you're given a choice of which currency you want to pay in.

Same with play.com. Saved a bit, by getting it shipped to someone I know up North. Unfortunately you have to click the € price to send to us here in RoI.

I've found Asos to be great especially with there own labelled stuff being really nice and a great fit, definintly I would recommend it any day!

Marks and Spencers now ship to virtually every country but Ireland (sickening, I know!).You could save alot of money buying online in sterling and having your purchases delivered in the North...or Spain or France if you happened to know someone willing to lug them home for you!

If you order off the Monsoon website you pay the Sterling price, however, you can return it to an Irish store and get refunded the euro price. I inadvertantly made a bit of money doing this.

I've actually been disappointed a couple of times with the quality of their own brand stuff. Spent £28 on a jersey dress there recently which turned out to be a horrible thin t-shirt material. Badly finished too. It went back.

    Jersey is T-Shirt material though.

I find the catwalk bit good as you can see how the garment moves and take some hints from that.

I've always found the finishing to be very good on ASOS own brand I have to say.

Yeah I know, I just didnt like the quality and weight of it at all, and the stitching wasnt great either.

I got another wool blend dress which is really funky and I love the style of it but the material 'burred' up really badly after one wear.

have to say ive never shopped on asos...i really should im getting really annoyed not finding nice/unusual stuff in the shops!is it worth it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,771 ✭✭✭✭fits

Well its worth a try. And the exchange rate is excellent these days. You can always post it back if the item doesnt suit.

I was going to buy a few things from them but the p&p was quite expensive I thought.

can you buy using the Sterling if you are geting it shipped to ireland? i know on play, they wont let you buy in sterling if the shipping address is irish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

Yes you can buy in Sterling and get it shipped to Ireland.

I buy quite a bit from Strawberrynet.com and it works out much cheaper to buy in Dollars and let your bank do the conversion

Does anyone know how fast/slow delivery is? I meant to order a few things off them a while back but my credit card was maxed out....and the exchange rate is too good now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,852 ✭✭✭ncmc

It's been a while since I ordered with them, but last time I ordered I got it delivered within 3-5 days.

I would guess though that the exchange rate is gonna get even better, the pound shows no sign of strengthening.

I'm saving over 10 euro by shopping on ASOS rather than on the brand's own website but I'm greedy so does anyone know if there are any discount codes around at the moment that actually work?

I noticed Mina dresses (Janeybabe has me interested!!) were more expensive on there than on the actual MinaUK website. So it's good to do some research. I also saw Mina Dresses in the new Arnotts shop in the Jervis S.C and they were waaay more expensive than the net.

Cheers, I did look there but didn't find anything that worked. Maybe next time.

I got a Mina UK dress on ASOS for over 10 euro cheaper than on the Mina website, including delivery. I don't know if this was just an exception or what because that generally doesn't happen. I had bought that dress on the Mina website in a different colour a few weeks previously so I knew exactly how much it had cost me.

They sell some Mina dresses in a shop in Cork and I always go in there when I pass to have a laugh at the people who are paying almost double the online prices for old stock. I really does pay to shop around!

what are the sizes on asos like? im usually a size 8 but can be a 10 depending on the type and a friend of mine said asos sizes are smaller!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,771 ✭✭✭✭fits

Just buy your usual size. Its no biggy to exchange it if it doesnt fit. Im in between a 10 and 12 and bought a 12 dress recently and it was far too big on me.

Depends on the style and material involved too.

Just bought a kookai dress on there yesterday... must. put. cc. away.

Be careful with lengths of dresses and skirts, they seem to use some very short models on ASOS. I bought a dress from them during the summer that on the model on the site was floor-length and bunched on the floor a little but on me was mid-calf. I'm 5'9'' so I assumed the models would be my height or taller, not shorter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭golden gal

I have bought two dresses and a top and would be about a size 6. I think their sizes are quite generous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,240 ✭✭✭mel123

yeah i buy off asos all the time, and would always buy my own size and never have a problem, like id send stuff back cause i dont like it when i get it, but never cause of size issues.
anyone else know any similiar good websites??
