Wash out hair colour - permanent on top?

Still havn't got rid of the wash out hair colour, even after swimming in a pool several times and washing with Head and Shoulders Shampoo and conditioner:rolleyes: What I want to do now is go lighter for Christmas, tidy it up. Can this be done or do I have to wait until the wash out is fully washed out??:(
