Hi all, might be getting married in April/May 09 (I say might because we had a wedding planned for abroad which due to family circumstance may need to be moved forward and relocated). Anyway, if we go ahead we realise it is short notice and need to get our skates on.

luckily we only want a small intimate wedding - absolute max 50 people. I want something nice with good service, with the venue either presented nicely without charging an arm and a leg or where they allow you to arrange your own decoration. Somewhere with an outside area for photos would be nice, but not a must. Also not mega expensive (I don't see the point in a small wedding if I end up paying the same amount as I would elsewhere for twice as many geusts). Somewhere picuresque would be the ideal, where we can have the wedding vows as well (cut down on the need for transport from the city).

General preferred area would be either in Dublin city or north city, Nth Co Dublin or Louth/Meath area (close to Dublin border) but I am open to other places.

We would also consider mid-week - in fact most likely will have to with it being such a short time away! Don't mind if its a restaurant hotel or anything, once its nice and pretty!

Also one big important thing - must have DECENT veggie food, and as my partner is muslim must also be somewhere that will understand the importance of no pork in any part of the cooking.

Anyone got some nice suggestions for a small place? most hotels I have asked at scoffed at the numbers and basically offered us a conference room with NO character! but still wanted quite a princely sum for bugger all really!

I am open to all suggestions! please help!

P.s - hae searched a couple of those venue websites, but find most of them don't have a lot catering for a small wedding party.

The Stationhouse Hotel in Meath is beautiful. I was there at a very small wedding and it was perfect. The food was excellent. But I dont had no vegetarians sitting near me. Sorry. But definately look it up.

hi countryripple - I think they are a sister hotel of the Waterside in Donabate. I remember seeing it on a website - almost certain it was theirs, but now when I look at the website it is different from last week!

I looked at the website and its seems nice - am thinking of the stationhouse, waterside or the bracken court. I need somewhere that will allow me to change the date without loosing my deposit - reason being until my partner gets his visa approved it is hard to secure a date! they usually take 8 weeks to process which would be loads of time, but I've heard of people waiting 12 weeks - so right now we are trying to deside what date is safest! nightmare.
    thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi there

I also had a small wedding, we had 35 at it. We had the reception in Clontarf Castle and they were fantastic, so helpful and no airs and graces etc. We took the pictures in St Annes park on the coast nearby (5 mins from the castle), its a big park and has a rose garden and everything.

I'm not sure about the vegetarian options, the food was lovely and reasonably priced. I'd imagine they could supply a vegetarian menu to your liking.

BTW, I know the station house in meath, its a nice place and they have a little place for the newly weds to stay, its an old stationmasters tower, its supposed to be cool. I've eaten there and the food was gorgeous.

    Good luck!

Sorry but I don't think the veggie food in The Station House is up to much. You could try Bellinter House in Navan although it might be a bit more expensive.
