I will be there with blackbelt and popebenny on our usual spot on the hill, under protest of course as the game should be in parnell pk.

Happy to see the game is reasonably priced , really puts the huge costs of the FAI and IRFU to shame charging €60-€100 for friendlies

Yes yet again Dublin are pawned into making money for the GAA.We serve our purpose when the GAA needs money yet they'll try and hang the team or its players out to dry when trouble lurks its ugly head.I'd rather have it in Parnell Park surrounded by real fans who actually know whats going on and that goes fo both sides.

I actually wouldn't go if I had to pay but my Parnell Park Pass covers this game so I'll go.Should be a good night though.I'm hoping we won't be hammered like the last time although I can't see that happening to us again for a long time. We'll have a point to prove although I fear the team will have gone back.

I've been keeping a very close eye on the club championships since the early rounds of the Dublin championship with Mullet.I've seen a lot of players who would fit nicely into the Dublin panel and some existing players in their natural positions such as McConnell. We need to get the balance right.

I'd argue that Willie Lowry (St Vincents) should be put in defense in place of the club tied Paul Griffin.Ted Furman (Ballymun Kickhams) isn't a spring chicken but he is a lot like Jason Sherlock..nippy and wins a lot of ball. Then on the right corner forward position there should be a place for Nesty McGrath (St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruaidh) and Eamonn Fennell should be partnered with Ross McConnell in midfield.Meanwhile,Cluxton needs to be given a break and Michael Savage given a proper run.

We need to freshen things up a bit and I think this game would bring the squad on leaps and bounds.

I don't think Lowry's even on the panel, nor are Ted Furman (who's only 20 btw) or Nesty, who normally plays wing forward.I'd definitely love to see Ross being played in his natural position in midfield though. Not sure about starting Savo in this match though. Tbh, I don't know who I'd like to see playing but I don't think there'll be too many experimentations. It'll be Gilroy's first real competitive game in charge and he'll want a good performance and a win.

This is a challenge match right?
Who cares who wins. Surely this is about trying out a few new players and ideas. Money spinning nonsense.

How do you make this out, do have any concept of history or nostalgia and at €20 a ticket and €5 for children, the match on a saturday night, and the running costs of croker they wont be exactly making a mint

I thought this was an NFL match.

Yeah, it's the opening round of the NFL. Dublin need to do well in the league this year, both as preparation for the championship and so that Gilroy/Whelan's tenure gets off to a good start. That's why it'll be a strong team, even if the Crokes contingent aren't there.

Well i have to go against the grain and say i am delighted this is in croker, as this will be the first match i will be takin the little girl to and you cant beat croker on a Dubs day

Oh and obviously cos she is seven wont be on the hill, will there be a meet afterwards?

Don't mean to go off topic here but the IRFU and the FAI have a professional game to support and only have a few showcase events in the year.
In fairness how many games have the GAA to make money off??

As for the match itself there should be a good atmosphere there for it and Dublin should go all out to lay down a marker for the new year. A good idea though. It should be a good night out for families etc.

It goes without saying that I'll be there. This forum will be well represented, all around the ground. Some of us will get together afterwards. All are invited to the first Boards GAA Beers of 2009. The first of many!!! There'll even be a Tyrone man at that first one. :) Of course, why wouldn't he? He's at most of the rest of them with us. All counties are welcome. We want to see more of you in 2009.
