Hard Disk Query

    Hi,

Im running windows vista premium edition on my xps M1530 notebook.
I have noticed that every second, my hard disk light flashes and there is a read/write noise from my hard disk.
I installed a program called "HDD Light" and it reported that my hard disk was writing about 0.2MB of info to the hard drive evry second.(So this is what the noise is)

I have tried many things to try solve this problem:
turned off: 1)superfetch 2)system restore 3)auto defrag 4)win defender among other services that were running on the system.

I have also gone into the bios and changed the hard disk setting to "performance" as i read on the internet (contrary to what the bios says) that it makes yourhard disk soundless noisy. Unfortunately this does not work.

As the casing of my notebook is aluminium, it amplifies the hard disk noise somewhat, so what I have tried is placing a thin layer of cushion fabric on top of the hard disk and slipping it into my notebook as a cushion betwen the hard disk and the casing. Again, unfortunately this has not worked.

I have thought about ordering a solid state hard drive, but for a half decent one, they are just too costly at the moment.

So this is where i am at now. I feel like throwing this damn laptop at the wall to be honest. If anyone has any advice/ideas on how I can solve this hard disk noise problem, please reply to this.

    Thanks

    Dan
