have just purchased a sony 350 blu ray player
wow what a difference from dvd
just a question regarding disc quality
would the likes of escape from new york be that clear of picture quality or is it a case of movies been transfered to the new format for the sake of it

The answer to your question goes directly to the original recordings.

If the recordings are made at high resolution, then they can be down scaled to either bluray, dvd, or tv quality pretty easily.

If they are recorded at low quality, then no, the bluray version will only contain larger amounts of noise to fill the extra resolution.

    See this list:

There are many new films that are poor blurays and some old ones that are very good blurays.
