Speaker Help Please

    Hi all,

Just got a new desktop (Dell XPS 420 with "Audio Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital capability") and Logitech X-540 running Windows Vista.

If I got into control panel and ensure it is set up for Surround 7.1 I can test it by click on each speaker individually - they all work fine.

The problem is when playing music, watching a video or playing a game no sound comes out of the L&R Rear or the Centre speaker. If I press "Matrix mode" on the speakers I get sound from all of them.

    According to Logitech:
“Matrix Mode”: Enjoy a 5.1 surround sound effect even from 2-channel stereo sources.

Soooo . . .whats going on? :D Its a new computer from Dell. How can I confirm it has the 7.1 whats-it? In Device Manager is meantions "High Definition Audio Device".

I've googled it and searched the Logitech and Dell websites but cant come up with a solution. Im new to desktops, speakers and Vista so any help on how to proceed is appreciated!!

With regard to music, most of what is out there is stereo anyway.

With regard to DVDs it sounds like your DVD player s/w hasn't being setup for surroud sound speakers.
