am thinking of getting this Gainward Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR3, http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=364356 the spec just mentions PC compatability. Do I need to get a Mac & PC specific version ???, dont see many of them listed anywhere.

yup - has to be specifically listed as mac compatible. GFX cards carry a different firmware for mac.
