During a security updte today I received the message that office needed the file "PRO11.MSI" so I pointed to it on the installation CD but the update failed.

Since then I can't open Excel.

I tried to uninstall the whole suite but at the very last moment it says it can't find "ADODB.dll"

Now it doesn't give me any option to locate this file, only the cancel option.

Now it's all messed up and I can't complete either a repair install, a clean install or a total uninstall.

    OS is XP Pro.

    -

go into add or remove programs in the control panel and then under office 2003, afaik, there should be an option to repair..

    Yep,

I've tried that Bob but no joy.

Thanks for the suggestion though ;)

I've come across this a few times in work. Its usually fixed by directing it to that file on the CD when it asks you for it

If you know your way around the registry, try a manual uninstall then reinstall with the CD.

Borrowed a friends installation CD & it worked a treat.

Guess my own CD is faulty?
