what does a foreigner need to marry in Ireland?

Hi all, I posted a short time ago about getting married in Turkey. We were penciling in the date for April, but now my Dad isn't well and there is a chance that he may not be able to travel in April (he is scheduled for an op, and knowing the Irish health system it will get delayed, so don't want to make plans for marrying abroad in case he is not well enough to attend). So now we are considering marrying in Ireland - does anyone know what is legally required from a foreigner looking to get married in Ireland? bear in mind my partner neds a visa to visit Ireland, so its different than an EU national who lives in Ireland getting married here.

We would just be coming to Ireland a few weeks before the wedding to get organised, have a small wedding in Dublin, and then off on honeymoon, and back to Turkey. Any suggestions where to get info? I emailed the registry office etc., but that was on Monday and no response yet.

    Any help would be apprciated

(also if anyone knows the name of a company who helps or advises on visa applications that would be great too!)

    thanks in advance

I'm not sure if it is different if he needs to get a visa, or if when he gets it the visa would be the same as for any other foreigner.
He will need to come to Ireland and ye will both have to register at the registrars office in the district where you want to get married and he will have to be resident in Ireland between then and the wedding for something like a month / 4 weeks. then u can get married in a civil ceremony.
you also have to give notice that you are getting married and this is a 3 month notice period. As for getting married in a church im not sure but the legal side can be figured out here

thanks Baglady - I finally got a response from the resgistry office today (no church wedding as its a mixed faith marriage). We don't have to be resident in the country for more than 5 days before the wedding - we just need to ask the registrars permission to book the ceremony by post. Then all he needs is the same as I would need - nothing extra. He doesn't need any extra permissions or certain types of visas - Which is a relief. once we go and see the registrar 5 days before the wdding to confirm everything we can go ahead. I will be home well ahead of 5 days, so i will meet with him/her first, get the ball rolling and then when my fiance get here we will go on and complete the formalities.

Os at least that is one thing to check off my list of things to stress about! I was worried that he would need to be on a certain type of visa, or need lots of paperwork, but just proof of identity, proof that he is eligible to get married, berth cert or equivalent and most importantly the fee!

he's delighted as here in Turkey you have to have blood tests done and he is petrified of needles, so he's chuffed he's getting out of having to do that!

thanks for taking the time to reply to me though!
