iTunes || My Documents > My Music > iTunes || Why?

So in my Edit > Preferences > Advanced in iTunes I set my iTunes Music folder location to X:\itunes music.

About a week or two later I decide to delete C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes thinking it would have no affect on anything.

Clearly it does. I've now had to import the folder X:\itunes music back into iTunes and wait for it to add it all to the library, get artwork etc again.

How can I change it so that all the iTunes settings currently in the newly formed C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes are stored somewhere else?

    Thanks

I should also add that deleting C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes appears to have wiped all my playlists, records of my purchased music and alienated my iTouch when I plug it in.

I did a backup of iTunes a while back but it wouldn't contain all my latest music.

From looking at the options on the screen when I plug in the iTouch I can transfer this purchased music back to iTunes ... but everythings not as it was.

Have you ticked the "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized" option under the advanced tab of iTunes' preferences? Fairly sure this influences what you've described.

Indeed. Sounds like you had your music stored in one folder, but the iTunes Library file stored in the default location.

Create a new libary in your music folder and import your music into it.

Folks, from my reading it seems that where his music is stored is not the problem, what seems to be the problem are the itunes preference (or settings) files related to his library...or maybe i'm totally wrong here....sorry...I forget how itunes works.

He deleted the folder that had his library file (the index pointing to the music files, containing the playlists, ratings, sycn history, etc) in it.

Yes, and it seems he wanted that folder not to exist...ie for all the itunes info required to be stored in "X:\itunes music." library files, genius files....all that shtuff...

This is ticked but looking at the description of it "Places file into album and artist folders, and names the files based on the disc number, track number, and the song title" it doesn't appear to be the problem here.

Sounds like that to me too which appears to be what happened. This I guess is what I guess for assuming. I'll have a look through the new library link thing you provided.

From reading my 2 posts again I don't even know what I want. I guess a couple of things
    - a way to get back the deleted library, playlists etc but I don't think this is possible because of my constant use of CCleaner.
    - a way to prevent this happening again
    - a way to keep my whole library and all settings in one folder
