Sterling hit 90p to the euro today. Time to take a visit to our friends at gak.co.uk

All plans of my bacchus/tokai LP are out the window and I have my eye on another jap guitar from gak thats working out about 300-350 cheaper than musicstore/thomann.

If anyone spots any particularly good bargains to be had please post them here

They do charge shipping but its something like £25 for a guitar. Not something you really have to worry about with gak. Free shipping on certain things

Cracking amp I picked up recently is a steal on GAK:

Some places across the border are already advertising that €1 = £1 in their windows to help entice people across...

but its not very patriotic to do that of corse!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

i would like one, with a pickup change it could be a nice machine, hey its a lefty that isnt black! mahogony body, flamed maple top, medium frets, nice thickness neck and scale, trems alrite, its worth a look if ur a lefty, last years model was blue, the year before was orange, this is by far the nicest colour going for it

and the selection is never huge! usualy 3 or 4 ****y guitars

Getting back into guitar after i pretty much stopped playing due to college commitments. decided to treat myself to this:

    guitar_body.jpg

    full_guitar.jpg

    fender_headstock.jpg

In stores in Ireland ( not naming any store directly) i was quoted over the phone roughly 1500 for the American Deluxe Strat. Got it on GAK for a little over 900 euros. the money saved will be spent on an amp eventually.

Well the smoked chrome stuff could be black...........

Or did you want the 'ol Nigel Tufnell "None, none more black":D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭jimi_t

I've always been of the Hotblack Desatio school of design :D

I've been gassing over one for about 3 years, and I've money coming in...I'm tempted to wait till January though to see if the exchange rate will hit par; the exchange rate you get on a credit card is never as good as proper exchange rates. Not like they're going to sell out of Aerodynes in the meantime.

(OT : Started a similar bargain thread in Music Production - Some great kit to be had, esp. mics and studio monitors)

Well I was just talking about the body, but I suppose you could get black tuners, bridge, knobs, pickups without pole pieces, strings and frets! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,528 ✭✭✭OK-Cancel-Apply

I can't take it! Stop it!!!

Come on lads, we don't need any gear right now! I know for a fact that most of you have at least 5 or 6 guitars and/or basses. As Mr Burns would no doubt agree, you'd be happier WITH the dollar!

Ok..I'm off to get that Red Special!

Was looking at picking up a '72 tele deluxe on GAK or Soundslive - have only bought second hand to date (which I'd never do blind) so are there any pitfalls on buying new on the net and getting a pro set up when it arrives

:( I paid just over €700 (including case) for mine on soundslive.co.uk back in Feb. It was so worth it though, just watch out for finger smudges.

Edit: Just noticed the output jack. Mine has a Strat style one, looks a little better imo.

Just a quick question about gak.

They dont seem to have any information on in stock items. Do you need to order first and then you get a delivery date?

If this is the case, can you order and then cancel if the delivery time seems too long?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Just email and ask before hand, but if u place an order, ill figure they'll say its not in stock

Heres my original post and conversion estimate. ( It was priced at £649 at the time).

Anyway I`ve asked them what the story is (33%+ increase) and am awaiting a reply. Anyone else notice anything else going up in price? Its the only guitar I was really pricing up myself so have no others to make comparisons to.

Feckers...the ibanez range is way up on price.

    RG1570 was £475....now it's £599.

Gak are now gone to hell....that's official.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Vim Fuego

Yeah, I priced an RG2550 and it was around €680, then shot up to the 800/900 mark. Was it just a sale or something? Shame

The Ibanez 2009 pricelist was released to retailers the other day and has major price increases on most things. Gak may have already applied the hike to their current stock. I'll check into it and compare the prices. But if you're looking at something, now's the time (from a retailer that hasn't updated their prices yet).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

thst ridiculous, i wonder what they say in the reply to the email..

Thanks for the info. 33% increase does seem a huge increase though and suspiciously brings them right into line with the likes of thomann on the euro equivelent.

On a side note, I got this priced up in X music(not a stock item) adn they quoted me 1000 euro, which is the same as thomann, and more or less the same as gak, so their pricing seems to be on the money.
