Horror show off the tee at 17, Rose birdies it, down to a 1 shot lead now with the tricky 18th to play. I hope he doesn't choke like in Switzerland last year.

I hate the phrase "choke" - unless you're talking about the England football team... Rory's just smoked one down 18. No sign of "chokage"...

    Close it Rory...

    Sensible lay up at 18.

    what did rose do

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,589 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Rose laid up as well but found a poor lie. He's hit a great shot from there though whilst McIlroy found the sand. Playoff looks likely now unless McIlroy pulls a beaut out of the bag.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,589 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Scratch that, McIlroy plays a nice shot from the bunker to a few feet.

Brilliant Rory......all of Holywood are proud of you.

Fantastic achievement especially with the weight of expectation he must have felt particularly in the last few months. Top 15 in the world now - WOW! Must be a really good bet for the "Race to Dubai" especially when the final event is to be played on a 7700yd course. Can't wait to see what he does in the Majors and WGCs this year too!

Actually thought it was a very poor lay up tbh - leaving himself a half shot over water in that situation was mad imo - should have left himself a full shot. What was his caddy thinking? Great win in the end though ! :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,072 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

€5 on McIlory at 10-3 with PP. He had alot of birdie puts this morning but nothing fell for him. If it does go his way, he'll be untouchable.

He did it in the end but made me sweat for my return.

Inside the top 20 in the world ranking's, a major win this year would not be a surprise.

hHaving spoke to jp this morning, the plan for the lay-up was to leave 95 to the flag so he could pitch it 100 and zip it back to the flag. Adrenaline kicked in and his iron flew 20yd too far, leaving him 75yds. not an error really, just excitement of youth. Good bet to be top 5 by year end id say!

Looking forward to seeing 2 Irishmen in the top 10. I have a feeling it will be sooner then later. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

Just watching Harrington in the Buick Invitational... Not too bad on the front nine, but the back nine it looks like he left his putter back in Ireland. Horrible 4 putt - double bogey on the 17th to what looked like 2 a routine gimmes!!

Not a massive Irish Contingent playing the Maybank Malaysian open this week. Peter Lawrie is T9 on -2 after 9. Murphy, Maybin and McGrane out in the afternoon. Damien is out in the main group along with Anthony Kim and Jaidee so there should be plenty of TV coverage of that group providing they shoot decent!:D.

Course seems to be playing pretty easy. Alexander Noren (who is going to win in the next few months BTW!) is -8 after 12. Opened with 4 birdies!

    Gareth Maybin T10 on -6
    Lawrie currently T33 thru 11
McGrane +1 and Murphy +9 miss the cut (probably at -1)

Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia starts up in a little over an hour (Irish Time).

Poulter, Villegas, Casey, Kim, Greg Norman, Westwood among the 'names' on show...
Murphy, Lawrie, McGrane & Maybin provide the home interest.

Sky Sports 1 have some LIVE coverage starting at 4:30am running through to 8:30am, so unless you've got Sky + or you're a total insomniac there's not much chance of catching it LIVE. Highlights on later [Thursday] at 13:00 GMT on Sky Sports 2 and Golf Night is on S/S/Extra at 10.
