Structured underwear & eyeliner

I've been considering getting some structured underwear to go under a dress I'm wearing to a wedding. The dress is fitted so i need my lovely extras sucked in etc. but as there'll be dancing (waltses etc.) I don't want the girdle type contraption to be felt as I dance with the men folk. Any suggestions as to brands and where to buy?

Also, any suggestions on eye liner which doesn't smudge, I got a pencil "Make Up forever" and it keeps sliding and making my eyes look smudged.

    Thanks
    MT

They had a segment on the Afternoon Show yesterday about all these pulling in underwear. Spanx and Trinny & Susannah were two of the ranges I heard. (I was working so didn't get a proper look).

Here's link to all that were shown http://www.rte.ie/tv/theafternoonshow/2008/1211/bairbrepower.html

The Gok Wan one looked the best to me but I think it depends what area you're trying to hide.

As regards to eyeliner. Kohl pencils will tend to smudge, more suited for doing smokey eyes. Go for a waterproof eyeliner - MAC powerpoint eyeliners are waterproof and don't smudge. Or you could try the fluidline eyeliners. These are little pots so you need to use an angled brush to put them on.

For eyeliner try a gel from MAC or Bobbi Brown and set it with matte black eyeshadow (I use MAC Carbon)

For the underwear, try Penneys. They do those hold you in one that go up as far as your bra and clip on, so it probably won't be felt through your dress.

I've a MAC kohl pencil and it's awful for transferring from top lid to bottom lid. Christian Dior waterproof kohl pencil is very good.

The Pennys ones are useless (i bought 2 types) you're better off spending a bit of money and getting it right e.g spanx

For support underwear try the Ultimo suit with the straps:

Debenham's didn't have the right size for me, so I ordered directly from the Ultimo website - got it in a couple of days

Aparently for eyeliner the best thing to do is use pencil first and then use liquid liner afterwards. I haven't actually tried that out myself yet but it's meant to keep it in place and not smudge.

I use rimmel eyeliner pencil, does the job!

I've worn them a couple of times and I thought they worked well.

As someone who has experience with Spanx and other shaping products I would suggest Aristoc Hourglass toner tights.

    Read review here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews5522.html

They were the best selling shaper tights of 2007 and for good reason; they're comfortable and give fantastic shape.

Ok, so they may not be that pretty but if they do the job who cares!

I have found with Spanx that people make the complaint that they tend to roll at the top. This I would say is due to the fact that 80% of them insist (speaking from a professional standpoint) on getting the wrong size (they always go a size bigger!)

With the Aristoc bodytoners you only go by hip-size. Height is not a factor as its the same for both sizes.

If its aesthetics you're going for then id suggest the wolford shaper/control dress.

    http://www.wolford.ie/shape-%26-control/lingerie/op.naturel-light-forming-dress/p_51182_scli/wolford-ie

It will set you back at least EURO 100

    Best of luck!

Hi Macy9, I've a quick question about the size you should get, do you mean most women wrongly get them a size too big?? (I'm just wondering cos I was thinking of getting something for the tummy area, prob not going to spend much on it tho seeing as I'll be on the diet in a few weeks :p )

    Exactly.

Buy the size that you are instead of a size bigger. If i had a euro for every customer that said to me 'well my friend said you should always get a size bigger' ....its just bad advice on their friend's part. ;)

With Spanx it goes by weight and height. Oddly they don't factor hip size into their measurements.

With the majority of shaper tights its height and hips.

If you want something just for your stomach without the tights attached then id suggest the Aristoc waist cincher as its much cheaper than buying a corset and not as restrictive. It retails for aprox 18 euro.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks a mill macy9, I'll have a look for aristoc stockists but I've kinda left it til the last minute so if all else fails at least I know how to get the right size in something else! Will def be needing it now after finishing off a whole selection box...:o

ETA: Just saw BT and Debenhams stock it so will have a look! Er... one last question, will these waist things give you more of a waist?? (ie. smaller) or just smooth out the belly and bumps?

Thanks for that gyalist. I settled on a pair of Marie Claire body shaper tights that I picked up in Dunnes in a hurry. I suppose if nothing else I may at least feel like I've made an effort to hide the tum! Confidence/sexiness is all in the mind and all that sort of thing!
