Combining analog sinal with Satellite

I have a freeview satellite box for bbc/UTV etc I have RTE/TV3 etc coming in on the Aerial. Is there any Set top box out there, that will take in both signals and combine them into one input on the TV.

Basically I want to be able to switch on the TV, switch on the STB and seemlessly move between RTE from the aerial to UTV from the Satellite without alternating from a TV to an AV input on the TV

Failing that is there anyway to combine the analog signals with the sat feed and 'retransmit' the analog channels at satellite frequencies so the sat receiver sees them as Satellite channels

Its actually for my very elderly parents who are really struggling with switching between the TV and AV inputs, they are basically just watching the Terrestrials because they cant figure out how to get the Sat channels on the TV and when they do get them, they cant get back to the terrestrials. I have tried writing down instructions but to no avail.

I thought about SKy as an option, but they don't want to pay €20 per month, and I think it may be even more confusing as they sift through all the rubbish to find BBC and they also wont have any ITVs.

    Any ideas would be welcome

I'm using Technomate 6900 Super, and i have Terrestrial and satellite channels in the same favorite group. Technomate 6900 is a bit more expensive becouse of the features it has.
I know some other cheaper receivers can do the same but i have no experience with any other then Techomate so wait for the comment from the others.

Budget option: Maybe a UHF modulator box from the sat box scart so you tune in the sat box as a fifth analog feed. Then they just go on to Channel 5 to view what the sat box is showing. Could work fine up until analog switch-off.

Failing that, depending where they are in the country, you could always get a Digital Terrestrial MPEG4/FTA Sat Combo box like a Mvision HD200 Combo - About €330.

Go onto satellite.ie or any other supplier, theres combiners for sat and analog signals, you need one at both ends to combine and split, about 10 each i think

OP want to combine sources at the TV, not signals down the wire.

Easiest solution is probably to use the MPEG4 trail for RTE/TV3 on a combo sat box. Or, budget permitting, buy a panasonic freesat tv.

    Thanks for the replies.

They are in south Westmeath. Are RTE doing digital FTA? Can you get all 4 terrestrials? Do you have any links to coverage maps?

I'll have a look for that technomate and the panasonic. Fat_fingers do you have any links can you tell me where you purchased it

I tried the 5th analog channel and it made it a little better, unfortunately on the box they have ( I cant remember the make) the RF out is of poor quality. I have the Sat and TV combined on a one4all remote, and that maybe adding to the confusion. I might try a sky box with UK FTA card if they cant get RTE Digital Terrestrial

    Thanks again

Another option might be a DVD recorder. My Sony DVD recorder has an EPG (digiguide I think) that is downloaded each night from the Eurosport channel (you don't need to be subscribed). You can select programmes from the EPG and the DVD recorder will select the correct input automatically.

You can also get the teletext update of the EPG from ITV, which might work better on Freeview. You would also need to check that the DVD recorder and freeview box are compatible (i.e. that it can imitate the freeview remote).

OP mistakenly (i think) used word Freeview for satellite when he's referring to Freesat. I do not believe OP has access to British Freeview so Freeview DVD Recorder will be useless in Republic.

You could ge a Globalteq Combo. These can be got for 160 ish shipped to Ireland. Single EPG for RTE over DTT and BBC/ITV Satellite FTA. South Westmeath should be able to get Clermont Cairn right?

I also meant freesat, not freeview. I am referring to a standard DVD recorder, so this should be an option with Freesat.

yes I meant Freesat . Is there any cheap way to check if Irish DTT is available. Is there a special aerial required or will a standard terrestrial aerial work

Any links on that GLobalteq box.

    Thanks
