Yeah, yet another one of those threads! :D

I'm in need of a new car and my budget is between 7 and 10K with a preference towards the lower end. I only do about 10 miles a day to and from work with a bit more to and froing at the weekend.

I want something comfortable with a bit of poke, but given I'm coming from a 1L VW, that won't be hard!

Any advise would be helpful, I need something by the end of the week.

    1. Forget about buying anything by the end of the week.

    2. Drive as many cars that fit your criteria as possible.

    3. Come back with more specific questions.

Seriously, if you don't know what you want, how the fvck should we?;)

Ha! Where's the "no thanks" button? :D

Okay, my mind already thinks it's the weekend so ideally I'd want something by this day next week rather than the end of the week :P. Worst case, I need something by Christmas

I'm looking for a hatchback. So far all I've driven is a 2005 Focus which was out of my price range and a Mazda 3 hatch which seemed a bit underpowered with a 1.4 engine.

What's the Corolla like? This one seems nice enough? http://www.carzone.ie/search/Toyota/Corolla/VVT-i,--/200848191047273/advert

Or what about Seat? Is there a particular model of Leon I should look out for? I like those cars.

It's all about what you like, as opposed to what we like. This is why you need to get out there and get driving as many cars as possible. Would you let me pick a jumper for you?

Well, I was just looking for some suggestions of cars to try! No harm in that. It's not quite as simple as legging it out to try as many cars as possible when I don't know where to start and don't have much leeway with getting time off work.

What sort of jumper would you pick?

IMO You should be able to buy a '05 ford focus from a dealer for less than €8000.
