Trousers problem

I have-obviously-had this problem most of my life and have found little help. I'm under average height and while my torso is fairly normal , my legs are particularly short and stocky. All my trousers/jeans etc have to be shortened by several inches as a matter of course. I have always found it difficult to find trousers that look good on me and that minimize my problem. So I have worn jeans for most of my life. The standard and fairly ubiquitous men's trouser cut,now and since the eighties, tends to taper the trouser at the ankle and that emphasizes my short legs. Wider cuts make me look broader and stumpy. I'm a bit long in the tooth for narrow-legged trousers but they would make me look as if I had two sticks for legs anyway. What suits me best is a closer-fitting jean with a slight flare, (or failing that a straight style) but as far as I can see you only get that in mens jeans and never in actual trousers. Shops are unable to help me and I have-hard to believe-never seen this problem in a mens magazine help page. At this stage I am fairly bitter about the pathetic lack of choice in mens legwear I can tell you.
