Amazon purchase

    Hi

    This is probably going to make me sound completely stupid but basically I bought a book from Amazon which turns out to be way overpriced.

    Its a business book and cost £100, the subject fits exactly something I need so I thought 'happy days' and bought it

    Problem is I recieved it today and its one of those small pocket guide things- (it only has about 70 pages) and it turns out its only worth £7 (14 times less than what I paid for it). Even calling it a "book" is a bit of a stretch.

    I contacted the seller today 5 mins after I recieved it and asked to return it but they said that there is nothing they can do as it is not "materially different" than the advertisement but when you see it its pretty obvious its way over priced. They fobbed me off with the claim that its a collectable but its was mass produced in 2002 and the publisher still lists it as being £7 so its hardly an antique.

    Obviously Im kicking myself for being so stupid- just wondering if there is anything I can do? (Apart from smarten up)

    EDIT: I should say I contacted amazon about it and they sent me one of those generic type emails basically saying it nothing to do with them because I bought it from the "marketplace", the seller is an Amazon regular not just a randomer but looking through some of their compalints it appears this has happened to others

    I have just seen something about the "right to withdraw from contract" of an online purchase up to 7 days after reciept of goods for any reason under the Distance Selling Regulations:

    Distance Selling Regulations (DSR) 2000.
    Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Directive 97/7/EC.
    Electronic Commerce Directive 2000.

    Does anybody know about it?

    There is a feedback part on your account page. You can leave bad feedback about marketplace sellers. It is on your account page. In hindsight, you could have read other users bad reviews there too.

    If it was bought with your credit card you could ring them and tell them you wish a refund. Tell them that you are trying to return item under the EU distance selling rule. Will take a while and you will have to supply the CC company with all your evidence.

    Also get back to Amazon, and tell them also. Keep all emails/screenshots.

    Distance selling, and all consumer protection in fact, only applies to buying from a business. Buying from Amazon market place is a private sale between you and the individual seller, like Buy and Sell, and is not covered in any way. In a private sale, it's buyer beware.

    In the end, you knew what it was that you were buying, and you paid the requested price. If you were able to research the book afterward, and check the publishers information, then why didn't you do that up front? £100 is a lot of money, for any book, so before spending that amount you should have checked what exactly it was you were buying.

    FYI ,I was refunded last year by amazon ,because I never recieved a market place order.
    Amazon where very helpful and quick to refund me.
